All:

Just thinking out loud here, but is there something that we, as a community of creative caring people, could do for the people impacted by Katrina? I am sure that all of you, like me, are being bombarded by requests for money, supplies, etc. Central Texas folks are starting to see a lot of these people and their needs are enormous. But here is an idea that maybe we could get behind.

How about a raffle for something like a Zen Drive. Maybe we could get Mr. Zen to donate one to the board, raffle tickets for 10 bucks each with all proceeeds going to one of the many charities providing relief; there may even be some musician-oriented relief funds going soon considering the musical nature of New Orleans. I have no idea how to actually pull something like this off, handle the money, etc, but I am sure if we pulled together we could make this happen. Another idea would be to get Robben to offer something like one free admission to his clinic and raffle that off, too.

Just thinking out loud here people, but we need to be creative in response to such a crisis. There are almost 1000 members on this board - if we all pitched in we could make a significant contribution.

Comments, suggestions, whatever?

I'd be happy to participate in a raffle. Maybe we could use Paypal to handle the money. There is one raffle for a package of cables on Guitar Gearheads (www.guitargearheads.com). The tickets are $15 each and all proceeds go to the Red Cross Katrina Relief Fund. The cables are from Lava Cable. I think the Zendrive is a great idea because it's something we can all use. While I'd love a free ticket to one of Robben's clinics, I would have a hard time getting there from down here on the Gulf Coast.

Great idea Telefunk!

What with the terrible Tsunami and other terrible tragedies happening around the world, it would be great to help. This community is home to many fine people, and i am sure the response would be good.

I think as Kirk is the Captain, and Daved is our eyes and ears( ( Confused ) of Robben we should see what they say on the idea's raised. Maybe Robben has a few things he could donate for raffle, and I am sure Elizabeth would go crazy for the tickets if it were a pair of his shoes Very Happy .

Anyway, great idea. The response to your thread will be the key.

All the best,

DD

It seems news from New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta gets worse by the day. The stories are heartbreaking. I'm going to support a few social fundraisers in my local area over the weekend -- most of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross.

I think raffles & any fundraiser that gets people to GIVE is a good idea.

Another idea: If there are local hurricane relief fundraisers that you feel passionate about, post the internet links on this thread, so other forum readers can consider supporting them as well.

The American Red Cross and other FEMA volunteer organizations will provide temporary housing and help meet the basic needs for these hurricane victims, but there are many people who will not be able to rebuild their homes and their lives. And this is only the beginning of the hurricane season. I know I'll be taking the hurricane warnings more seriously than I have in the past. I hope others do too.

Whether you live in a hurricane zone or not, it's important to THINK ABOUT the best ways to protect your family and protect/backup the stuff that's important to you. How many of us have a lifetime of intellectual property -- research, journals, film, tapes & other recordings, music notes/original scores -- that could be completely destroyed by a house fire or other natural disaster such as Hurricane Katrina ?

Over this Labor Day weekend, I'll be thinking about how to better protect the things I've worked so hard for. And I'll GIVE what I can to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Count me in. I have a Zendrive already set aside for this. If kirk95 gets this going I'll be glad to ship it to the winner of the raffle. I will put a decal on the back indicating that the unit was part of the effort to help people in New Orleans.

Where is this raffle being held? If it's on another site, can someone please provide a link?

Thanks,
~JZ~

Any news to report on this effort? There was a great story on NPR Morning Edition today about the impact of the hurricane on the music scene in NOLA. There were several relief/charity efforts mentioned. There is even a guy up in Boulder trying to get the city to help relocate musicians up there! Could be a party, Captain!
