Hi to all Robben fans.My first Robben Ford music contact was "The inside story"..Long long time ago ,but stlill & maybe the best Robben's album & i'm supprise that not to many talked of it in the forum...Keep on the great works Robben...

i got the coolest thing for x-mas.... my sisters boyfriend had the original copy of the rolling stone article when robben ford released the "inside story" in 1971... it is so awesome...he knows i am a robben fan and gave it to me,me,me!!!!!!
cant wait to see greg alman and robben ford at house of blues --chgo!!!!!

reboot and maxima: Welcome aboard! Three summers ago my wife and I had the great privilege of hearing Robben with the "original" Yellowjackets, i.e., Russell, Ricky and Jimmy, at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood (with the added bonus of hearing Anne sing earlier in the program with Robben backing her on an amplified classical guitar). "The Inside Story" gets played at our house at least once a month.

Ah, you hit a soft spot in my heart. I love that album. It was my first introduction to Robben in 1981--I was blown away. From there I got into the Yellowjackets, and so on. Being into Robben's playing was a big deciding factor for me moving to LA and going to GIT in 1983. I got to play with Robben many times there and even recall playing "Tee Time for Eric" with him.

I moved back to Michigan and some years later, in 1992, I formed a band to do a mix of Jazz, Blues, R&B, etc. We named the band "The Inside Story". We still play today. In February of 2004, Robben was playing in Detroit and I sponsored a clinic with him. Robben played four songs with our band (we had a blast), so it was kind of cool to have him play with The Inside Story.

I didn't have a turntable for years and bought the CD about 5 years ago and it still sounds great!!

I still have my turntable (an analog kind of guy I suppose) and vinyl copy of Inside Story. When I took it years ago to a show to have Robben autograph it, he looked so jazzed to see it. "That's a great album!" and he was smiling from ear to ear.

Yep, Tea Time for Eric. Anybody know who Eric is? Very Happy

Eric Gale - he was one of the guitarsts with Stuff at that time with Cornell Dupree (the best damn riddum player in the world). Gale worked with lots of people including Grover Washington on his Mr. Magic-era CTI records. A very smooth slick player, I believe he passed away several years ago. He had a couple of good solo LPs too.

luckily being a vinyl as well as cd collector, i've managed to get many a great jazz lp--cornell,eric gale,stuff, i have robbens efforts on vinyl as well.
the eric gale lp ginseng woman is exceptional.

I don't know abut Inside Story. I have to offer another perspective. I remember being really excited when this came out - I had heard RF live with Spoon, had the live and studio Spoon albums and had the two LA Express albums. When I put this sucker on it just laid there - did not do a thing for me, and I still think it reeks of too much of an LA production and style over substance approach when I listen to it today. Had to wait until Talk to Your Daughter to hear what I considered to be the real deal.

And speaking of Stuff, I picked up two of Cornell Dupree's CDs the other day - Can't Get Through, and Bop'n'Blues. Good stuff, if a little mellow. A better release is Teasin' which I have worn out on vinyl. Wish I could find the CD.

Remember I told y'all about the original 1979 rolling stone ad of Robben that my brother inlaw gave me ?

I forgot to tell you that when "bluenote" went to Robbens clinic in May,
he got Robben to sign it for me...now its truly complete.!!!
Robben asked him where he got it.
he also said things about having the ad made..he thought it was insane that they gave him a whole page...He looked soooo young.
I think they should give him the whole magazine but I guess I am a little bias..
I have been trying to get local music stations to play Robben.
I just dont understand why they dont... any clues???

Where are your local stations, Maxima? I've tried to get my local independent to play Robben with mixed success. The only thing I can offer is to get as many local RF fans together and talk to the sponsors as well as the station. Station managers will listen to a lot of listeners, but they listen a lot more wuickly to their sponsors!
