If you are listening for an amplifier that requires no effects (other than warm natural room acoustics and size for power tube saturation tone, to handle 30w, 60w & 80w volumes) then check out Komet Amplification (TrainWreck Circuits) These amplifiers give dynamic response to your playing and the most variety from a guitars volume & tone controls that I have heard. |

Who actually has that kind of money? Not to be a jerk, but sometimes these amps and guitars are just insane. How many people have dropped 3 grand on ONE amp. I mean, I guess in my heart of hearts I think a reissue Les Paul is worth the 3 grand, but I'm not gigging enough to think that is a reasonable expendature of money.
Am I totally out in left field here? Does everyone think I'm nuts? I'm curious if it seems like some of this get vagualy masturbatory?
Maybe I'm just having a bad day. Let me know. Sorry if I've offended anyone.
Thanks.

Oh well, I guess I'll chime in. I've not only spent more than $3k on one amp, I've done it for two amps--a Guyton GT 100 FV and a GDS 100 W. I've also spent a silly amount on a new TC 2290. I couldn't be happier. These items sound fantastic and are well worth the money (IMHO)!!
That being said, I wouldn't go so far as to spend $6-$7k for Two Rock Custom Reverb Sig. Nor would I spend $22k for a used Dumble. $3 to $4k for an amp head is as far as I'll go.
To each his own. I've got friends that spend $18k for a Harley and/or $60 to $80k for a car and I think that is nuts! |

There are a couple different designs of Komets. Possibly the coolest looking amps, the couple I've heard were terrific sounding. I believe you have to order through Ultrasound in NY. If you have questions about the amp ask for Hogy if you email Komet.

Ditto Jack D.
I think the analogy Jack has mentioned is correct. I have friends who don't think of spending the extra few grand on cars, holidays etc, etc even silly money for clothing and accessories. No one batters an eye lid to this!
Save money on that new/newer car, fully incluscive holiday and treat yourself to music gear you would really love to own.
I just wish I could afford to do this myself!!!!
Those Komet amps do look cool too!
All the best,

To find out more info call River front music in Baton Rouge La.
The builders will explain these amps & what you need as far as volume & tone pots on your guitars to take full advantage of these amps (& other amps for that matter).
As far as $ I think 6k for a Komet amp, Dr Z 2-12 cab & Jet guitar w/coil tap (see Ed Roman for Jet Guitars) is cost effective, this set-up will provide a vast dynamic range & last several life times, so soft pack the guitar on your back, amp in one hand, cab in the other & off you go, simple.
When I check back on my musical gear purchase past, these are a good investment & have stopped my problem with G.A.S. & refocused my time back on my music. |
