Bluerunner had asked me what I was up to, so I thought I'd post my progress on finding a guitar and the Ford tribute project:
I ended up buying a Parker fly cherry mojo. I really like it. It's 4.5 lbs, has SD pups, and make my other guitar feel like a block of splintered wood. This guitar lets me stand all night, and really inspires me to play, and play better. And this was actually cheaper than going the Baker route. Only cost me $3000 CAD (with tax). Used one with chips on ebay right now is already over $2200. I got the only Mojo in Vancouver, as there is only one store that carries the line, and it took 6 months for them to get it in. I was lucky, because after I bought it, there was a line of people coming in to check it out. It's too bad I'll probably never even get to try a Baker. I asked to be contacted when Baker had completed his first new line of guitars, but nothing has happened yet.
As for the tribute band, it's going well. We just got a vocalist, a solid and pleasant rehersal space in a house, and are currently fine tuning about 6 Ford tunes, including Rugged road (my personal favorite), Tired of talkin, Think twice, Strong will to live, Indianola, Busted up, Worried life blues, and Help the poor, which I must say, is cooking nicely, and will probably be the set closer, since it always goes into an extended jam. The drummer has to put in extra work to get those Brechtlein beats down, but he's getting there. We will record a demo, and play opening slot for a popular local blues band in Vancouver around mid Jan. This will be good exposure. We are serious about gigging in the next year and I don't think it's going to be a problem getting work with music of this calibre. The best thing for us (though not so good for Robben) is that most people don't know his music, it hasn't been played to death (unlike SRV) so that will keep it fresh for all involved, players and audience. By the way, my real name is Robin. Is it coincidence that two of my favorite players are Robben Ford and Robin Trower?
Now all I need is my zen drive and Fulltone deluxe wah. Alf Hermida told me it should be shipping this week, there were 22 orders in front of me, (I paid Oct 31) so I might even get it before Christmas. I also just bought a nice custom Traynor 40 watt tube for $450 (!), and replaced all the cheapo slovak stock tubes with JJ's. I'll likely run two amps, one for the mag pups of the Parker, and an acoustic amp for the piezo's. So far, I've dropped 5 grand on equipment (guitar, custom earplugs, Jam man, amp, pedals), but I'm happy with all of it. As soon as I get a good demo of the band, I'll post it here.

Spatzi,
I'm glad things are going so well. I hope it continues. I have my sights set on a zendrive in the (hopefully) near future, too. Keep us in the loop, we're pulling for you!

spatzi: Thanks for the update (and the PM reply). Sounds good. My guitar teacher uses the Traynor 40 for nearly all of his gigs, and this is a guy who plays with a Country & Western band one night, a straight-ahead jazz group the next, and sometimes in a local bar with just a drummer. His various axes include a Tele Thinline, an old Epiphone archtop, and an Ibanez solid-body, and one night he showed up doing the jazz stuff with a Taylor dreadnought the singer in his C&W group had loaned him, and all have sounded just fine. So I get the feeling that the Traynor's a pretty versatile amp. Keep us up to date. _________________ - BlueRunner
