Daved:
There was a recent thread on The Gear Page stating that a Forum member had just seen Robben's Lake Tahoe Nevada show, (August 16th I believe) and Robben was using a Les Paul, a Zendrive, and a (his?) BF Super Reverb. He said the show was GREAT, and that Robben sounded as good as ever, even without the Dumble and his Baker.
The thread generated quite a bit of interest, and I was wondering if you could possibly expand on the Super Reverb a bit. Is it Robben's? Speakers? Tubes? Reissue or original? ANY info on the Super Reverb would be GREAT.
As always Daved, your participation and information you supply regarding Robben and his gear is greatly appreciated by the Forum members

Anybody?
Also, I could have sworn there was a thread here that detailed the settings Robben used (uses) on his two reissue Twin Reverbs. If I remember correctly one amp used the tremolo and one didn't. Anybody?

Thanks in advance
Chuck
I've posted settings waaaaaayyyyy back when... but don't remember them right off out here on the ABB road (I'd have to research my notes at home... someone in this community may have those posts from "the old days").
These days, however, when we use 'provided' Twins I just set all EQ knobs at the midway point and the volumes at a comfortable, but still clean, level. I usually put the reverb somewhere around "3" on it's dial, with tremolo turned off (Robben never uses that particular effect, in my experience).
Robben then fine tunes volume from there, USUALLY with subtle and very minor changes in the EQ.
He will, sometimes, turn the reverb off in one of the amps so that one runs clean of all 'internal' FX. _________________ B C-ing U!

The show you speak of may have been with his brothers (?). I wasn't there for those shows so I don't know what amps he used. Usually his bros provide amps for him when he tours with them, and he leaves his own Fender Super at home.
He usually only breaks out his Super when recording so I don't remember clearly what it is loaded with. I'd have to check and refresh my memory next time I'm home and out at the storage room. _________________ B C-ing U!

Thanks Daved, the replies are GREATLY appreciated.
Somebody posted a pretty decent close up photo of the two reissue Twins Robben was using during his recent (?) show with Eric Johnson. I believe they said EJ was using a reissue Twin as well, only with his Fuzz Face. The amp settings (for Robben) looked pretty much EXACTLY as you described with volume around 4.5, treble, mid, and bass, around 5.0 (or so) and the reverb about 2.5 - 3.0. Again, my thanks for your input.
If you do in fact get a chance to see what in the Super Reverb one day that would be very cool. Also, can you remember if it's an original (65 or so) or is it a reissue like the Twins? Lastly, does Robben prefer the Twins for live shows and the Super Reverb for recording? I believe the person that posted the report on the Lake Tahoe concert stated that Robben was running the volume on the Super Reverb on 6.5, while it looks like he runs the Twins at 4.0 - 4.5 (or so). We have a Twin Reverb (reissue) in the store, and just out of curiosity I plugged a Les Paul into it today with all the controls straight up except I had the volume at 4.0 and the reverb at 2.5. GREAT tone and vibe and I can certainly see where that set up in tandem, miked and run through the PA, would just be killer. I also had a Super Reverb reissue that I turned to 6.5 and that just about took my head off. Wow!! Cranked SR for recording and smaller venues with no PA? Twin for larger venues with a PA? Just curious.
I was helping the Ford Brothers band pack out after the Grass Valley show
on Aug 20th and Robben put the Super in question into the trunk of his Accord ,even though Patrick had all the other gear in a rental van.
Our Guy had driven up from Ojai the day before but, not knowing for sure; I'd venture a guess that it was his own.

My wife and I went to the Crystal Bay show you are referring to. It was my first time seeing Robben with his bros. It was a fun show. Robben seemed much more "relaxed" compared to his solo shows I've been too. I would have to disagree about his tone. I did miss the ODS. Although, he ALWAYS sounds great to me! I was able to talk with the whole band (except for Robben) durring the night. I did catch his attention once as he raced by, just long enough to tell him that it was GREAT to see him again! I never examined the settings on any of the amps, so I can't help you there. Although, I can tell you that Mark was playing through a Super AND a L5?. Robben was playing his LP through a Super. Volker played a LP through his Two Rock.
I can't wait until I can catch another show.. I'm hoping that since we've moved down here, I'll be able to see him more often..

Just got back from Robbens clinic in Ojai and asked about super / Zendrive combo. Robben said that his Super is VERY modified (can't remember by who) so the Zen would sound different with a straight SR.
