anyone out there got the chords for "don't let the sun catch you crying" as in the acoustic version from the Authorized Bootleg album?
I've got the song as bonus track on Tiger Walk ,and the arrangement just blew me away!!!
Is the rest of the album (the bootleg)just as good?
Thanks |

It sure is. No Robben collection is complete without The Authorized Bootleg. |

Since you already know the tune, I'm not going to type in the words. Hopefully, what follows will help.
The intro is just G7 to D7#9 four times.
G7 3 x 3 4 3 x
D7#9 x 5 4 5 6 x you can also add the A# on the 1st string for variety.
The verses are as follows:
The bass just stays on G while you cycle through Bm, C and D triads.
Shapewise, 3 x 4 4 3 x, 3 x 5 5 5 x, 3 x 7 7 7 x
Or you could say, Gmaj7, C/G, D/G, C/G, Gmaj7, C/G
Then, the transition to the IV chord uses:
D11 no third x 5 x 5 5 3
Db9b5 x 4 x 4 4 3
Now the IV chord sequence is just a turnaround back to the I, as follows:
C9 (G on top) x 3 x 3 3 3
Bb13 (G on top) 6 x 6 7 8 x
A7 (G on top) 5 x 5 6 8 x
Ab7 4 x 4 5 4 x
Repeat intro between verses.
At the end of the second verse,
G7 D7#9 G7 F#aug 2 x 2 3 3 x
Bridge:
Bm7 for 2 bars.
E7 while the bass walks up chromatically to Ab.
Then A7 while the bass walks up chromatically to Db.
Come back down to Am7, and resolve Eb9, D9.
The solos are like the verses except that they alternate G7 D7 instead of the triad business with the major 7 and the static G in the bass.
At the end of the last verse, we walk down:
G7 F#aug F7 (all three D on top on B string)
Eaug
Eb13 no third x 6 x 6 6 8 (Your daddy done turned Salty)
D13 not third x 5 x 5 5 7 (And he don't want you around...)
Back to G7 with a standard blues turnaround to end it. _________________ "To be is to do"--Socrates.

Here's a little more detail on the walk up in the bridge.
From E7, use these shapes. This sounds best if fingerpicked, by the way. What you want to do is play the lower strings together, and then play the open high E by itself in between.
0 x x 1 x 0
2 x x 2 x 0
3 x x 3 2 0
4 x x 4 3 0
Then, from the A7:
5 x 5 6 5 x
7 x 5 7 5 x
8 x 7 8 7 x
9 x 7 9 7 x
Good luck, and hey thanks for bringing up this tune. I haven't played it in a while. I think I'll get my little band to do it.
Cheers,
