Here's a goodie:
Take Sco, Larry Goldings, Willie Weeks, Steve Jordan...
...then add Dr John, Aaron Neville, Mavis Staples, John Mayer, David "Fathead" Newman, Warren Haynes...
...and have them play the music of Ray Charles...
(I got mine in the cut-out bin for $7)
Brilliant !!!

You're absolutely right, Andy. John Mayer did a concert at the Bowery Ballroom in November and played his cut off that CD with his new trio and it was smokin'!

Some of my favorites from 2005;
OHM "Amino acid flashback" ( best disk of the year for me )
Oz Noy "HA!" very good one.
DVD "RF in Paris" // The new 30 year anniversary Rush, I also like the Cream DVD, fun to play along with.
John Petrucci "Suspended Animation"
I two have been into Ray Charles this year, I love Brazil DVD 1963 and the Sco. Tribute CD.
Some of my favorite/most memorable shows; Joe B. Blows my mind every time I see him, he is playing a lot here in Vegas, this year too. Buckethead, beyond belief amazing. Michael Landau at the start of 2005 maybe the best live performance ever, Scott Henderson, and Steve Luk..were in the audience too, they may agree. This may have been at the end of 2004 but it was too good to not mention.

Well, a bit of a disappointment was Kenny Carr's "Friday at Five" CD...
The first two tracks are great, in fact the second, "Ray's Riff" is a real burner, a swingin' blues tune with a be-bopish head...it's high on my "to transcribe" list.
Then things fall off...the arrangements are rather bland, IMO...I find myself trying to like it...but I don't think I listened all the way to the end yet.
Carr's got great chops, but on the whole, this material doesn't do him justice.
Now another one I'm planning on picking up is Bill Frisell's "East/West."
Anybody got that one?
