Cool I'm taking the easy way out by going to neither. Has anyone else noticed that on Thursday night February 9 in Santa Cruz, Robben and his brothers (at Moe's Alley) are going head-to-head up against the Derek Trucks Band (Rio Theatre)?

Hello BlueRunner,

Robben is appearing at several venues this month within driving range of the Bay Area (my home area) but I have schedule conflicts with them all! The best however, was when I had the good fortune of seeing Derek Trucks open for Robben Ford in 2003 (maybe 2002?) at the Fillmore in San Francisco. And during Robben's set, Carlos Santana sat in for two or three songs. I'll always remember how Carlos eventually changed the groove to fit his style during “Help the Poor.” It was a fantastic show. I was completely floored by Derek Trucks and his band and have been a loyal fan ever since. I'm seeing him on Feb. 11th at the Independent in San Francisco. At the Fillmore, I thought Derek might steel the show he was so amazing. But it only took the first few bars of Robben's opening song to remind me of what a presence and master he is as a performer. I’ll just have to wait patiently for Robben's show at Yoshi's in May. Thanks for the observance about Robben and DTB that sparked some good memories.

What a music month Feb. is. I was at Moe's on Thur. Am just now get'n ready to leave for The Independent to see DTB. Next weekend is Big Head Todd at the Fillmore. The 25th, back to Santa Cruz for Los Lobos at the Catylist. I feel like I am on tour...lol
The show at Moe's was great. For a Thur. nite I would say the place was packed out. It was tight up front. Seems there are more than enough blues fans in the Santa Cruz area for The Ford Bros. and DTB.
The band was minus Mark. His presence was missed by my wife and I but Patrick found a quite able replacement...who's name escapes me. Little cozy house...2 1/2 hour show...lots of improv.....Robben and friends at their best!!!!! Cool
