Hey all,
I suppose an appropriate time to introduce myself as I just saw Robben tonight at Yoshis. I wish I could have stayed for the 10:00 show, but had to give a coworker a lift home. This is the third year in a row I have seen him...at Yoshis and the first time I have seen him playing with another Guitarist and I must say that Robben is a very humble and gracious person.
I did go to his clinic at Blue Bear music a while back and it was one of the nicest afternoons I have had in a long time. I think he would have talked for another two hours had he not had a schedule to meet.
I first heard Robben's stuff when I was in high school when he was with Tom Scott. I was playing bari sax and flute......... I know an odd combo. Well after getting out of high school and playing around a bit in clubs in East Oakland and some very unsavory experiences. I put my horns away for many years. At that point the last Robben Ford stuff I had was the Yellow Jackets. Years later a friend turned me on to his Blue line stuff and after hearing it I decided to drag out my horns. I decided to sell my Bari, Flute being my first instrument I got a very nice flute after selling my bari and started to play again. I only play for my own amusement these days LOL.
His music has been uplifting for me. I mean this guy has been cranking it out in one form or another for a really long time. I have almost all of his discs. I have read a few of the discussions here about his direction etc. I myself feel fortunate to be able to pull out a disc and listen to the evolution a really talented musician that is truly devoted to his craft. and I can't wait to see him on Friday.
Hopefully I will not be excommunicated from the forum for poor spelling, grammer etc. I am pooped out and I have to work tomorrow.
