For those of you who are Mike Bloomfield fans, I've posted a couple of photos online that I took yesterday during my visit with Mike's mother & step-father, Dottie & Bill Shinderman. Go to the folowing link and scroll to the bottom:
http://www.wintutors.com/music.htm
For me, it was a very moving day. Like Robben, Mike was the driving force behind me becoming a professional guitarist and having his mother relate very personal things about Mike, particularly in the closing year of his life, was pretty emotional. I mentioned to Dottie how Robben and many other guitarists were influenced by her son and she was well aware of Mike's impact as a player. She showed me a copy of a book I don't have, "The Rise and Fall of An American Guitar Hero"........many incredible photos of Mike I'd never seen previously. When I got home last night, I checked to see if it was still available online and got a real surprise..........it's now a collector's item and sells for $175-$500, depending on the condition! It will have to become a Xmas present to myself one of these years.
Dottie & Bill told me that a film crew was recently at their home filming what they think is going to become a documentary of Mike's life. I'll be staying in touch with them and let the discussion board if I hear anything further.
Over the years, many of Mike's close musician friends have stopped by and visited with Dottie & Bill........Al Kooper, Barry Goldberg, Nick Gravenites, etc.......and I really feel honored to have been welcomed into the Shinderman's home.
Needless to say, a wonderful day in my life. Enjoy the photos.

Very cool story- thanks for sharing it and pics.

Regarding the book...

I would check the library first and read the book before you spend that kind of money. I bought a copy when it came out and was very disapointed with it. Not very well written. Good pics though, you are right about that.

Enjoyed the pictures. I have been a fan of Michaels for a long time. I was lucky enough to see him play at a concert in Santa Clara up close and personal. My best friend was helping out on stage and it gave me a great place to watch until the Hells Angles took over the stage and kicked everbody off, just before the Doors came on. If I rember right the whole band was there including Paul Butterfield. The Doors headlined but Jim Morrison was so messed up The Doors kind of sucked that day. Also on deck was a group called The People, they had a couple of pop hits. I can't remember the other groups just that I was in la la land watching Paul & Michael. On anotehr note is that Robin playing in the background if not who and what CD.

Thanks for the photos Adrian! I recommend the oral history, "Michael Bloomfield: If You Love These Blues" by Jan Mark Wolkin & Bill Keenom.

Check it out!

Patocaster: I have that particular book and got Mike's mother to sign it yesterday..........right beneath her picture on page 15. I also learned during my visit that Dottie was an actress and model in her younger days.......Doublemint gum & Jantzen swimsuit billboards.

Richard Harris: That's Scott Lerner............he's from Philadelphia and definitely influenced by Robben. You can check out more of his playing (audio & video) at: http://www.scottlernermusic.com/music.html

Cool sfhalo: Thanks so much.

By the way, just got my copy of the 100th issue of Blues Revue. They've reprinted some highlights from early issues, including a Gravenites article about Butterfield's early days, including nice mention of Bloomfield.

Bluerunner: Any chance you could copy the Blues Review article and send it to me? I'd love to read it, but haven't been able to locate any magazine seller who carries the magazine. It would be most appreciated. If you can, I'll PM you my mailing address.

My local Books a Million carries it but they don't have that issue in yet. You might give them a try if you haven't already.
