I came back yesterday from the Tampa Blues Festival at Vinoy Park. I posted the pics here

www.hermidaaudio.com/TampaBluesFest050606.htm

I stood next to Mavis Staples' guitar player and drummer on stage (near to the sound guy)...as I watched I realized that I needed to go back home and burn my guitars. :-)

Robben, Roscoe and Hillary were "ON".

Alf

Hi Alf,

good to see you hanging out here! Great pics Cool

I think it looks like you had a great day, and spent away from all that soldering too! Very Happy

Just out of interest, did Robben ask you for any special mods for the Zendrive, or any comments in general??

All the best,

DD

Nice pictures Alf !

The festival was great. A fabulous lineup of performers & I caught every set Friday, Saturday and Sunday (whew...i'm paying for it today). On Friday, there was lots of harp. Curtis Salgado put on a stellar performance. James Montgomery with Johnny Winter was good too. Saturday was a long day. Bands played from 11:00 AM to 10:15 PM. I think you'all know who my favorite band was Saturday -- The Robben Ford Band -- but all six bands were awesome, especially Omar & the Howlers, Mavis Staples & Jonny Lang. On Sunday, I didn't like the opening band at all, but the other bands: Duwayne Burnside, Tommy Castro, Rod Piazza and Taj Mahal were great!

Robben, Roscoe & Hilary played great! And Daved was there too, making sure everything went smoothly. The set list was:

Over my head
Indianola
The way you treated me (you're gonna be sorry)
Tired of talkin'
Help the poor
Keep on running
Chevrolet
Moonchild blues
Lovin' Cup
It don't make sense (you can't make peace)
Supernatural
Cannonball shuffle

I love seeing Robben with a trio because he plays a lot more guitar. Extended solos came off very naturally. His voice sounded great too! Roscoe played a nice solo on The Way You Treated Me and his right hand playing (tapping?) on Moonchild Blues was very cool as well. I think I heard pieces of John Lennon's Paperback Writer tucked inside Lovin' Cup. Chevrolet had a Indian, curry-flavored feeling. Help the Poor had sort of a rumba rhythm to it.

Thank you Robben, Hilary, Roscoe & Daved for making the trip to Tampa Bay and putting on an awesome show!

Please visit this link again:

since I added more pics. Aaron Cole was kind enough to send me pics from the audience perspective. These were posted right after the original ones I took while on stage.

Thanks Alf for the great pictures. I considered going to the Tampa show. But I got tickets to see Robben and Larry in San Diego this October instead. Now that would be a Zendrive promo for you with those two greats onstage together.

Thanks Alf. Great shots, all! You really got some good shots of Daved, too.
It looks like Robben used the Tele most of the time, is that right?

Do you have a schedule of places where Robben/Larry will be playing? I would love to see them both in a show together.

Alf

Looking at those pics from the Tampa Blues Festival, I see that the Patch cable from Robben's pedals back to the amps is going into another pedal sitting on top of the amps. What is that pedal?

Thanks.

Bill

PS: Daved, are you going to be with Robben in September when he comes to Japan with Larry Carlton?

I'm 99% sure it'll be a digital delay of some sort. Someone else will probably know off the top of their head? (Boss RV-2 maybe?)

Bill
It looks like the (usual) Boss RV-3 to me.

Alf:

Like DavidS, I also have tickets to the October 12 concert at Humphrey's By The Bay in San Diego with the Larry Carlton Blues Project featuring Robben on guitar. I've invited David to join my friends and I after the show for a glass of wine & eats.........if you're in town, we'd love to have you join us as well. Fell free to get in touch at any time.
