I read the Seattle review of Robben's performances with Gary Novak, Chris Chaney, and Mike Landau. Their show in Portland Tuesday night was equally astounding.
Fashion report for Liz: Robben was looking glorius in a fab suit, black silk shirt, black boots. WOW. He came out on stage and launched into the show without a word. Smiles all around, both in the audience and on stage. He and his bandmates were astonishing. He introduced the band as some of the most gifted musicians on the planet, and they went on to prove it.
Robben seemed very relaxed, and his playing was inspired. I am still smiling.
Songs (from memory, out of order, some are missing):
-
Indianola
Over My Head
The Way you Treated Me
Tired of Talkin'
GOOD THING (THANK YOU!)
Cannonball Shuffle
Keep on Running
Supernatural
Tired of Talkin'
Don't Deny Your Love
Help the Poor
Lovin Cup
Michael Osborne, longtime John Lee Hooker guitarist and Robben's friend, joined the band for a tasty traditional blues tune. The band also played a Mike Landau composition that was very much on the edge and one of the show's highlights. The show was full of contrasts and different styles, highlighting the musical diversity and talents of each of the players.

Thanks JavaDiva for posting your review! Everything about that show was magical. Robben seems to really enjoy the Alladin, and to prove it the entire group put Tuesday's show completely over the top. There were also some humorous moments, and a very serious one when Robben recognized the other show going on at the same time - The benefit for Curtis Salgado, whom Robben dedicated his show to.
Notably, the entire band was playing in the groove, on the edge, and with a joy that was infectious. Not unusual for Robben's shows, but this time was unique and supreme. There were many totally sublime moments, their use of dynamic intensity alone would be worthy of a doctoral thesis or textbook - naah, better to just be sure to NEVER miss a chance to see him! _________________ "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away" Geo Carlin

Thanks a lot for the report! Landau’s live solo stuff and earlier bands “Burning Water” and “Raging Honkys” are great. His music is like a drug to me. Big long time RF fan here, I hope to see them together this year.

Thanks for the great reviews JavaDiva and DeaconBlue ! I wish I could've been there. I'd love to see Mike Landau play sometime. I love the way he plays Hendrix.
DeaconBlue mentioned the benefit for Curtis Salgado. Curtis played the Tampa Bay Blues Festival in May and he was amazing. This is a picture of him I took at the festival:
