Well, here we are on a Monday day off near Birmingham, almost halfway into the UK tour.
Last night's show seemed to be the night when everything came together and the band, with Melvin and Gary, "found their voice".
Matt Schofield was in attendance (I understand that he lives here) and came upstairs to the dressing room to meet and talk with Robben. My understanding is that Robben has invited him to sit in with us tomorrow night at the Nottingham show.
Our support act, The Samual C. Lees Band, have been great to us, transporting both us and the gear around the country. An energetic powerblues band, they remind me of a cross between Mountain and Nazareth.
We had some gear problems the first couple of shows, but Andy, Adam and Sam have been wonderful in helping us get those issues resolved to where Robben's band is now settled in. Andy is sharing his own kit with Gary (which Gary much prefers over the drums that had come from the rental company) and Mel and Adam are sharing a rented SWR rig that we've put together.
Robben is, of course, using a pair of Twin Reverbs along with his usual Zen/wah/volume/delay pedals set up.
He has his '57 goldtop LP out here, along with a brand new Sakashta "NeuPaul" that I picked up on the way to the airport. Robben is very happy with the way it feels and sounds.
Robben has asked me to haelp him with some of the album recording session in L.A. right after Christmas. _________________ B C-ing U!

Hi Dave,
I was there at Bilston yesterday and I've enjoyed every second of the show. It really looked like Robben and the rest of the band had really good time playing togheter, even though especially at the beginning of the show Robben looked a bit unhappy about something happening on stage (problems with the speakers? Maybe I got it wrong and I am just rambling here....).
Anyway, Robben's performance was umbelievable, as usual

Hi Daved,
great to hear Matt Schofield could be sitting in too! He is one of the UK great blues artisits, and influenced greatly by Robben.
With respect to the new CD, do you know what the format would be. I would love it to be a mix between tracks a la "Tiger Walk" & some good old raw "handful of blues". I also loved Supernatural. Finger's crossed, and I am sure it will be well worth the wait.
Cheers,

Robben got blasted by a short but very painfully hi pitched squeel of feedback thru the monitors during soundcheck. I think he was just a bit gunshy at first as he kept popping a set of earplugs in & out for the first few songs untill he became more confident that it wasn't going to happen to him again. _________________ B C-ing U!

Hi Daved.
My mate Tim and I were at the Manchester gig last week stood in "second row" in front of Robben. We were the ones checking out the gear !
I wondered what 2nd axe Robben was playing - now I know having read your earlier post. That is a very strident guitar in the midrange ! Great sound - even without the dumbles. The Paul sounded mellower we thought, but super as ever.
Looked like you had a busy night by the way.
Robben seemed at ease and it was fun seeing him go off the predetermined set list and stretching his band a bit - especially on the improv'd sections and working towards endings !
Loved the show and really looking forward to Sheffield tonight. We will be further back to get a better house sound.
Ive just finished up tweaking an ODS-inspired amp Ive been building over the last year , but its too heavy to bring to the soundcheck on foot in Sheffield ! Maybe I should have one ready next time your in the UK to try then you dont have to worry about renting Fenders or bringing Dumbles !
Anyway once we've seen the second gig we'll post our impressions on the site somewhere.
Thanks for getting over to the UK for us keen fans.
