Does anyone know if Robben is still playing with Gregg Allman and Friends? His name was on Gregg's website, but now I don't see it. It's the November dates that I'm interested in. I will see the show either way, it's just a bonus to hear Robben!

Thanks for any information

Pierre is correct. Scheduling did not permit Robben to tour with Gregg this year.

Jack Pearson is currently handling guitars for this leg.

I am told that Val McCallum will be filling that slot during the next leg of the tour (November - December).

I have also been told that Val is actor David McCallum's (Illya Kuryakin / The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) son.

Illya Kuryakin was one cool character!

Daved, "B C-ing U" this Friday night at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater! Leaving tomorrow for one week of much needed R&R in warm & sunny Fla... Very Happy

Gregg Allman & Friends is always a great show, and Gregg and Friends did not disappoint last Friday night at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre. They played their usual favorites which I always enjoy hearing over and over. Songs like I'm No Angel, House Of Blues, Melissa, Midnight Rider, Whippin' Post, Statesboro Blues, and others. And, Floyd Miles singing his Back to Daytona plus a couple of others. What a great, fun show!

Regarding Jack Pearson instead of Robben Ford. First of all, I have to say that Jack played very skillfully with some great eye-opening riffs and especially, an incredibly long sustaining note during Melissa, which I believe someone also mentioned in another thread. I also noticed him playing solos in very much the same way Robben did last year with GA&F. Again, a very admirable performance, but Jack is no Robben.

And, finally, a big thanks to Daved for taking the time to make time with this old music fan! Wink

Hi JZ,

Thanks for the Pompano show review. The Florida weather was beautiful, so I'm sure you had a great vacation. I saw the Saturday night show in Sarasota and I thought GA & Friends sounded excellent -- it was a very big & BALANCED sounding band.

This lineup sounds different from last year's line up with Robben, where there was a lot of interplay between Robben & Gregg and Robben & Neil (on keyboards). Robben's guitar dominates Very Happy (...heavily flavors) the mix. Also, during the Florida shows last year, a few band members were sick, so maybe that had something to do with it too.

Did you know Gregg played electric guitar Saturday night ?!? I heard it was the first time he played electric guitar in concert ? Maybe Daved can confirm if this is true ? I'm also curious what inspired him to use the electric ? (did Daved hand him the wrong guitar ???? Twisted Evil )

Gregg also played a Strat (or Strat-style guitar) during one of the tunes at the show I went to. I believe the "first time" reference is correct in that it's the first of his Friends tours that he's played an electric (a true electric as opposed to his acoustic electrics that he usually plays)...

And, Daved is so efficient at his "job" that I doubt he ever hands Gregg the wrong guitar, but you already knew that... Wink Very Happy

My bro and 18y.o. nephew saw GA&F in Gainesville last week.

According to my nephew, Pearson, "did some serious shredding!"

I gave the lad a copy of the Paris Concert DVD to make up for not getting to see Robben play live.

Ok, here it is:

X

Hey, check out this REALLY cool place I visited in Ocala Nat'l Forest:

http://tfn.net/springs/Alexander.htm

I spent the better part of 2 days here swimming and canoeing...saw a little gator...it was apparently too cold for the locals to go swimming, so I and 1/2 dozen Scandanavian teenagers had the spring pool to ourselves!

WAY cool!

I saw a thread on the Gear Page where someone mentioned Robben playing with Gregg in an upcoming gig. Could this be correct? Perhaps Daved might know. Is Robben doing any select Gregg Allman & Friends gigs?

None that I know of, Jack. Robben's time is currently busy gigging with Larry C. and working on his next album.

Val McCallum has been handling the ax chores, to Gregg's approval.

BTW, I let Val try the Zen pedal I still had with me from Robben's trip to the UK. He, of course, just had to immediately have one and proceeded to purchase one off e-bay. he is currently using it along with the other peds on his board.

(Side note to JZ... glad you had an enjoyable time and I could help make your anniversary a little extra special. Best wishes.)

I know I've said it a thousand times but, thank you again, Daved! And, perhaps I'll meet up with you again during this tour, at Mohegan Sun in CT in January. If you recalll, last year's show at Mohegan was complemented with a good ol' New England n'oreaster. I could do without one if I make this trek!

Take care,
JZ
