Thanks for the link, HH !!!

Lots a great players there...I LOVED Joe Farrell !!! Cool

He was a most awesome multiple-woodwind player.

The song by Robben and Tom Scott is "Tom Cat" from the album of the same name:

This tune is a good example of the modified "A-A-B-A" funk tunes common during that period.

The "A" section is a nice funky groove, in this case just the I chord, but often a I-IV groove (see J. Smith's "Eight Counts for Rita.")

Then a "B" section ususally comprised of a combination of MAJ7 and min7 chords, ascending or decending in a stepwise manner.

The 70s was a fun time to be listening to/playing music!

Smile

Did anybody catch Robben's interpolation of "America" from "West Side Story" at 43:12?

Cool

Andy, yes that was it! I couldn't place it but that was very cool.

I was a little suprised that the clip was from 1979 because I saw the LA Express with Robben twice in '76. At the Santa Barbara County Bowl and the Universal Amphitheater back when I was living in SB. I didn't think he played with Tom Scott that long. Maybe he was just sitting in?

Either way seeing Robben with a tie on and quoting West Side Story was cool. Thanks HH.
