Anyone out there record club gigs? I'm interested in learning about what equipment to use, etc. But, I also want to keep it simple, and inexpensive.

Thanks.

There's a little Edriol thing that our former drummer had that works great. Built in mics, using external mics or plugged into the board. I think they're around $400.

Thanks for the reply, A. Since my initial post, I've looked around the i-net music sites and found that what you suggested (type of device & price range) is pretty much the only option for simple and inexpensive club gig recording. Unfortunately, 4 bills is still a bit too costly for me...

Johnny, I have a Sony MD recorder that cost about $120 that works okay. You have to use an external mic or plug it into a board. Then you have to transfer the files off the disk onto your computer using Sony's software. The battery life sucks and you really need to run it off the wall wart. But that might be a more cost effective solution for you.

I also have an old Sony stereo cassette recorder. It works pretty well. You can drop it on the front of the stage and use the built in mics and it won't overload. For some reason, it doesn't have very good bass pickup.

I also tried an Archos portable recorder (which is laying the garage somewhere). The input is line level so you need mic preamps. It can create MP3 files and has enough space to record a whole gig. Although with any of these, if you do that, you have to go back and split up the file into idividual songs.
