Very nice little funky venue. Seats about 250.
Balcony and bar upstairs, bar and main room with great acoustics downstairs.
John Burr on keys, Patrick, Volker, Robben, and new, fantastic / funky, bass player.
Sat in front of the SR about 25 ft back, and boy, what a night!
Robben bitched out some idiot in the front for holding up a video recorder after the first tune, and then all was good.
'54 goldtop all night, and Volker on an old Tele through his rig sounding very fat. He's a great player, Imo.
Bass player best since I last saw Roscoe with Robben.
Robben's voice was over the top, great house sound, and they were all very fat and funky.
Keep on runnin', Indianola, Feelin' Groovy (Fu**ing amazing solo, just like Mike!), new stuff off the latest unreleased album. 1.5 hrs straight set, with Homework as encore. Sorry, really long week and several beers without writing down setlist...
I've seen Robben and gang about 40 times, this was one of the best.

I drove drove down from Vancouver Canada last night to catch Robben and The Ford Brother Blues Band at Jazzbones in Tacoma. (Feb. 24) GREAT SHOW!! P-90 equipped Les Paul, Dumble tweaked Blackface Super Reverb, Zendrive OD pedal and Robben. Great tone, KILLER playing!! VS through his Two-Rock Onyx was a nice alternative tone, and I thought both VS and RF played VERY well and complimented each other VERY nicely. The bass player, Myron Dove, is one of best I've heard, and he spent the whole night standing between Robben and Volker laying down killer bass tracks, which allowed RF and VS to play off him, instead of stepping all over each other. I thought "the son" that sat in on drums for one song was fine, and I seem to remember RF saying that he had cut the track (they played last night) on his upcoming album that's scheduled for release in August of this year. The tune offered a nice "alternative" to what was being played for most of the night, and IMHO it allowed RF to play a little bit "out there" for that song.
I noticed quite a few cellphone pictures being snapped, but I didn't see any cameras or "flashes", and the only time RF turned his back on the crowd was when he adjusted his amp very briefly. He did stand behind his amp when he played one solo, but I understand that this is part of his "thing" because not only is he concerned about how is amp sounds "in front", but he also has a specific tone he likes to hear from behind as well.
The show was 1.5 hours long, a brief exit, and then a 10 minute encore. VERY well received with the appropriate standing O's at the end.
The guy I went with last saw RF when he was in Seattle (a few years ago I believe) and RF was using his Dumble rig for that show. My friend said he was pretty much stone deaf when he left that show, and said that he doubted if he would ever watch RF again if he was using his Dumble. The show last night was "loud" per say, but nothing excruciating, and certainly nothing to have to wear ear plugs for. A little ear ringing on the drive home, but other than that, no ill effects.
Worth every second of the 6 hour round trip!!

Good to hear about the great show at Jazz Bones, and I hope the second night was as good as the first. Of the two shows I went to in Oregon, the first one, at a smaller venue, was by far the best. The audience just seemed more into the groove; lots of guitar players and very few photographers.
The band played two sets in Salem, about 3 hours total, and were having so much fun just playing off each other. Reminded me a little of a show I saw at JJ's a couple years ago the night before the Santa Cruz Blues Fest - a band called Blue Monday. Just a bunch of great players creating great sounds.
Feelin' Groovy was a highlight in Salem, too, and put smiles on everyones faces.

That Tele is new, it's a Nash. They're great relic copies and very reasonable money.
As I said on another thread, Myron is a force of nature. I know he and Red grew up together playing fusion and Myron can bring it on tons of different styles. Would you believe that originally they were reversed? Myron was the guitar player and Red was the bass player. Things worked out, they're both monsters on their respective instruments.
And JD, Blue Monday was no slouch of a line up. Garth Webber, Clifford Coulter, Ron E. Beck and Danny Hull. Like the brothers show, all good friends and long time accomplices. Just having fun. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
