I survived the 2007 Tampa Bay Bluesfest.... Very Happy

I've posted lots of new photos on my Picasa Web Album. Try the "slideshow" feature for a nice display. The direct link is:

It was a HOT weekend ~ sunny and 90's ~ perfect weather for Blues and cold brews. A fast moving storm did hit the park Sunday afternoon, just prior to the Jerry Lee Lewis set, but otherwise, it was a "picture perfect" weekend as you can see from my photos.

I caught every set except for Jerry Lee Lewis. My personal favorites were Nora Jean Bruso, Lil' Ed & the Imperials, Koko Taylor, Eric Lindell with Jimmy Carpenter on Sax, Sugar Ray & the Bluetones with Monster Mike Welch on guitar, and George Thorogood & the Destroyers.

If you have time, also check out my other concert photos at:

Thanks for the great photo's there RW for the B.....I am curious, how did you like Debbie Davies? I have always wanted to check out her music, she earned her wings as Albert Collins sideman or sideperson and I can't imagine AC having a less than adequate sideperson.

Debbie Davies opened the festival Friday at 12:30 p.m. and there was a nice sized crowd (maybe 500-700 people?) that showed up for her set. Although I have a lot of her recorded music, it was the first time I've seen Debbie live. I enjoyed her set -- she's plays great and sings great --but she didn't attack her notes with the same energy/vigor as some of her earlier recordings. She's matured and she's playing the Blues she feels comfortable playing on a Friday afternoon. If it had been a night-time set, I think she would've put on her leather jacket and let it rip.

While Debbie was playing, Michael Burks stood by the fence which separated reserved seating from the general admission area, and greeted fans. He draws a lot a fans to the festivals he plays, and he takes a lot of time shaking hands, posing for photos and signing autographs. He played next. His sets are always high energy, loud guitar Blues. He plays until they threaten to shut the electricity off. Searing guitar solos and a beautiful deep silky voice. And he's back to meet and greet more fans after his set.

Michael Burks is a tough act to follow, but Sugar Ray and The Bluetones, including Monster Mike Welch, kept the party going. I loved Monster Mike's playing. He makes great "guitar faces" too.

Dave Mason didn't play any Blues.... Evil or Very Mad What was he thinking ????

George Thorogood & The Destroyers were fabulous. Great band, great sound, awesome, awesome, awesome ! Rockin' Blues all the way. And he looks fabulous too Razz

I had to pace myself... it was only Friday and there were two more days to go....
