Okay here's a story you Blue Line fans will dig….
It should be no surprise to anyone that I live on Long Island, NY. If it is, see my ID name.
Back in around 1994-1995 I was playing in this band with a really great drummer. And at that time I was intensely listening to the first two Blue Line recordings. At gigs and rehearsals I would repeatedly tell the drummer you have to hear this drummer on these Robben Ford and TBL CDs he's fantastic you'll love it. So at one rehearsal I say it again, but this time when I mentioned Tom Brechtlein's name my drummer stops dead in his tracks with his mouth wide open. He say's Holy s**t Tommy! He and I were childhood friend's we grew up together in East Meadow, I even taught him how to play Wipe Out in my basement. He told me how Tommy used to say one day he was going to play with Chick Corea, he did.
This was before this forum when there was a forum board on AOL for Robben. Tommy B. used to post there when TBL was active so I emailed him to let him know his buddy from the neighborhood said hi. Tommy emailed me back, I put them in contact with each other and they reunited. All because of me…..
I will post a very cool follow up to this when I have some more time……
While on the Blue line - I caught RF and TBL for the Handful of Blues tour at the bottom line, in I think '95. I was one of the best RF shows I've seen. They played, Rugged Road, When I leave here, Miller's Son, Good Thing, Think Twice and Leaving out on me, Please don’t let me be misunderstood. I sat like 20 feet from them. That show is imprinted in my mind. Bill Boublitz (?) was on keys! Roscoe played a standup bass for Misunderstood.
