That's more like it! I think the band were in better spirits tonight - setlist slightly different from last night's, I'm sure someone else will post it soon. Anyway, much more interplay, the band were smiling at each other and loving it. No heckler problems, everything was superb. So, that was my second time seeing Robben, and the difference was like night and day. Wonderful!

It was my first time seeing Robben Ford live last night and I was suitably impressed.

Hope he wanders back this way soon......

This is a bit late in being submitted, but essentially anyone who will see Robben and this band will be in for a real treat. Superb musicianship from all, in particular Robben (stating the obvious!) and Bob Malach on sax.

The Jazz Cafe was heaving, as Robben really ripped up some brilliant jazz tinged blues solos, intertwined with great rhythm work, and some great interplay with Bob (this guy really knows when and when not to play, never cramping Robben’s lead work, producing some fantastic stuff all of his own). The tone live is fantastic, and it just seems to get better and better. The overdriven sound on the night was reminiscent of the tone found on albums like “Mystic Mile” (very horn like at times), while the rhythm had a bell like chime, and clarity, like the sound on “Life Song”.

The setlist was particularly the same as the 17th (see sramell’s post), and was a good mix of old and new) with Robben casting his ever fresh spin on the old loved songs.

A big thanks to Daved (nice to meet you! You come across as a sincerely charming chap!!!) for his time (I had a brief chat, as did many others, as he found a minute or two in his busy schedule) and thanks for the old tele strings and pick, you gave me. My sons (6 & 2 years) might want to fit the strings on a small scale guitar in the future to bring them some of the Robben magic (lol).

Oh, and lastly, I stopped behind for a while (to thank Robben for great show and to sign the string packet! Thanks.) The only question I had chance to ask was what music he is currently listening to. He retorted “I listen to the old tenor sax players”. No change there, it seems..........where’s my Coltrane CD’s...............

Cheer’s,

DD Smile

I saw RF for the first time at Jazz Cafe #2. Smile

Interesting set as DD says good mix of old and new. Heavy Tinge of Jazz throughout.

Saw RF for second time at "the brook" in Southampton. Totally different set - more bluesy than Jazz tinge throughout. set order and choice - I don't remember "homework" at Jazz cafe. e.g. Main set included "keep on running" - "cannonball".

Thanks - a great couple of evenings. Very Happy Please come back to Europe soon!
