Hey, dear RF-fans,
I saw Robben last night at CAFE HAHN in Koblenz. It was stunning ! Robben did his thing like never before. But his first thing to do was keepin' the camera's out of his sight. Very correct indead because I don't understand why people keep holding a camera in hand in front of Robben while there was anounced that it was forbidden. You did a good job there, Robben ! The old man near me in front of the stage was helding a camera with a big lens (like you could see clear shooting stars) and in the other hand a smaller camera ??? Why ?!!
But Robben played very well and most of the songs where from the new cd.
Personal, I found it a little bit less that RF did not play HELP THE POOR and MOONCHILD BLUES.
The band was also stunning : TRAVIS on Bass and TOSS on drums, they look like an oiled machine !
I came all the way down from Brussel (Belgium) and drove 3,5 hours to get in Koblenz but it was more than oké !!!
Thanks, guys, for givin' a fine evening !
I will soon see them again.
Greetzzz

...excellent news to hear Robben and the team on form...
...saw him when he was with Larry Carlton in London Jazz Cafe earlier this year, didn't really tick with me as a bit too jazzy for my tastes, Robben stepped up for a couple of solo numbers off the new album (Too Much and Lateral Climb)...
...Robben was flu ridden that night so not really 100%...
...he is now swinging back around to London, December 15th and 16th at the Jazz Cafe, London again...
...reading from your review, it will be a stunning night to look forward too, can't wait!!
Andrew

Hey Fil, I personally would have been glad to hear some new tunes and not the same stuff he did for decades... I mean helpthepoor he played on every show I ever heard or saw from him and moonchild on every show since Paris 2001. God bless Robben for skipping these tunes finally. What I want to say: the gilrl from ipanema is a wonderful song but I never want to hear it again in my entire life. _________________ www.soultingo.at |

Hi there,
Robben said at the gig, he has a new guitar he wants to "play in":
a Gibson 335 (in red).
He also played the well known 60´s Tele a lot. Back up guitar (not played was a "scratched" Gibson Gold Top (57er?).
Songs played Koblenz, Cafe Hahn (as far as I remember) were:
1. Lateral Climb
2. How deep in the blues
3. Indianola
4. Nobody´s fault but mine
5. Riley B. King
6. Too much
7. Peace on my mind
8. The way you treated me
9. Cannonball shuffle

That's certainly the ES 335 he's been talking in his recent interviews, a 1968 model if I'm correct. The LP is the one from Larry Carlton most likely.
Thanks for the review. Unfortunately we are not going to see him this year as there are no French dates in the list... |

Dear Robben fanatics,
I find it strange that there are no Belgian and France gigs in this Robben-new cd-support-tour !??
It's most of the time all German gigs (good for the Germans) and a drive through German soil is'nt easy, comin' from Brussels (fuel, euros, driving time, mostly at night driving, etc...).
But to see RF is for me all there is ! It was a long time ago RF did do Europe so I'm not complaining about how far to drive, the money to spend, the dark roads in Germany at night.
I will go en see RF again in Leverkusen and Krefeld !
Greetzzzzz,

Hi Robben fans, I am a new member here. I've been a Robben fan for a long time, in fact many many years. I'm going to see my first live concert with him next Tuesday in Offenburg, Southern Germany. On my ticket it says "Robben Ford and The Blue Line" although I've thought that there is no more Blue Line. So my question: can somebody give me some nformation about his current back-up band?

Hello Christian,
Indeed there was some saying that RF & the Blue Line was coming to do Europe but as I was in Koblenz a few days ago, it looks like there where other musicians at sight ! Current line-up is TRAVIS CARLTON on Bass and above all drummers TOSS PANOS. I don't know if you saw TOSS PANOS allready but he's a hell of a drummer boy ! I like his work very much. Indeed I was ready to see the blue line with ROSCOE BECK on Bass and TOM BRECHTLEIN on drums but seem to be different, haha.
Greetzzz,

How'd the 335 sound? I've always loved the way Robben sounds with a 335 (like in the late 70s to early 80s). I spoke to him in NYC and he said he was having a stop tailpiece installed and new frets. I have a '67 with the original tailpiece and I love it.
I asked Robben about Larry's goldtop LP and he said that he gave it back. I know Robben as one with P90s and a few historic reissues. |

Robben has his Dumble with him, and combines it with two Fender Twins. The ES 335 sounded really great, I first thought it was a new one, it´s in a good shape, with a lot of new parts on it, but the guitar has this old red finish, very nice. |

Robbens Euro-tour is mostly Germany but he did a trip to northern Sweden to play the Umeĺ Jazzfestival. Way too far from me but I heard he came there with only his 60's Tele and the Zendrive. No Dumble or Les Paul. He used an old Super Reverb in series with a Super Twin.
That's all I know... |

Hi Filmore
You know what I did to see Robben a couple years ago? I took the plane from Frankfurt to London just to see Robben!
But, yes...I went to see Robben on Saturday in Freudenburg/Germany.
They were all in such a good mood!
I've seen Toss quite a few times with Robben but I never heard of Travis Carlton before.
The band was very tight and almost perfect, didn't hear a single mistake from Robben. After some songs they turned smiling to each other saying: "This was the best performance so far"
Robben really enjoyed playing with his new 335. After one song he turned to Toss and said: "Oh, this 335 sounds awesome but I have to change guitar now".
The show was divided into two parts.
I have the original setlist at home, took it from the stage.
Songs as mentioned by Filmore but i also remember Deaf, Dumb, Blind, Moonchild Blues and Lovin' Cup. I'll check the list later for additions.
They had to leave the location very fast 'cause they had to get a flight to Sweden for a single show. Then back to Germany.
Loved it
Thanks Robben and Band
Greetings
Michael |

Unfortunally no opportunity this time to travel to Germany. So, thanks for the reviews so far. Any pictures of that 335?
