Taylor is now making a newly engineered electric - 3 models I think ranging from $1,750 to $3,000 retail. The standard and the custom have tone chambers. I'm curious if anyone's had the chance to audition one.
I bought one of the original Taylor 810 acoustics back when they were operating in Lemon Grove. I wanted a Martin, but could not afford one at the time. Taylor looked to be the best option for me ... one which I do not regret. Little did I know ... that Taylor would take off like it has.
I also wanted a Gene Baker made for me guitar ... but that's another story. I settled for golf clubs and a trip to the Monterey Pennisula with my family. |

Hi Michael,
I can't help you with the Taylors (they are all generally excellent).

Sometimes we have to make these type of decissions, and its all about balance. Sounds like that was a fair cop!
All the best,

"I settled for golf clubs and a trip to the Monterey Pennisula with my family." Michael, are you sure you want to do that? _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. UK reviews all good so far for this guitar - and the price looks reasonable considering who made it. |

Michael,
Very good choices. I'm a Callaway man , but several of my buddies love the R7 drivers.
Now that we've digressed into a golf/guitar thing,a short story. I've become disenchanted with the Country Club I've belonged to for the last 20 years. Too much inner politics, and too many young Republicans driving BMW's etc., I was feeling out of place pulling into the lot in my '96 Ford Escort. When it came time to pay my dues last spring, I took the $ and bought my son an American made Telecaster that he was drooling over. This was really not a sacrifice but a good investment. He is a music major at Ithaca College and works 2 jobs to help my wife and I with the finances of sending a kid to a private school these days. I love guitars but don't play.......but this is the finest sounding guitar he has in his collection. He adores Robben and fell in love with that awesome sounding Tele he plays last time we saw him......Does Robben still take the Tele with him on the road ? Why do Teles sound so damn good ? I watched Crossraods Guitar Fest on PBS the other night and there were some awesome sounding Tele players......Vince Gill and the guy from Los Lobos to name a few. It is my dream to fly him out to California to go to one of Robben's clinics ,and perhaps play a little golf at some of those fine California courses. If the time frames work out, maybe take the $ I used to set aside for Country Club dues and do that. What a trip for father and son that would be. The guitar /golf thing to the max. Sorry for the digression, but it seemed the right time for it...........Jay |

I did the Country Club thing - early 70's to 94 in Long Beach. I play better golf than guitar and have a passion for both. I too have a young guitar player at home with a 1983 Tele. We bought it at a shop that specializes in used instruments. In fact, my son and I did meet with Robben and sat in on a music discussion/demonstration/question answer session - all of this the night before a great concert where we sat on the 2nd row.
We took the used guitar up to Grass Valley to a guitar specialist for a makeover - minor repairs and adjustments. It's a great playing and sounding guitar - and reasonable. My son is now taking music and music theory and applying it to his guitar chops. Robben told my son at the clinic that the secret of success is to "apply yourself like a mofo" ... we've used that story a few times.
There are some fantastic golf courses in CA ... as you know. And I would encourage you to take the trip. I would often stay at the Ojai Valley Inn - it may be called something else now - but if I'm not mistaken - it would be close to a Robben clinic and provide some golf as well.
You can't go wrong with Callaway. |

For one, I always enjoy topic diversions, and I couldn't see the moderators having a problem with the above, especially since it didn't go the way of absolute stupidness and distasteful perversion...
Ok now, let's carry on: Taylor(made) guitars and/or Taylormade clubs... |

Michael - what exactly is the "Monterey Pennisula". Perhaps you should have run a spellchecker here ... I hope it's not a "distasteful perversion" _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. Hahaha! You guys liked that one- distasteful perversion. Which gets me thinking... there must be tasteful perversion then. Perhaps MilliBobs can elaborate? |
