Great venue(seats about 180) Tan Overdrive Special Dumble over Tan 1x ? or 2x12 cabinet. Volume and wah pedals. TC Electronics Delay rack-mount. No Zendrive or any other box. Sakhastu, Tele, and a beautiful 335. All played on the Sakhastu except where noted.

How Deep In The Blues

Lateral Climb

Indianola

The Way You Treated Me (Bass solo) title right?

Riley B. King (Tele)

Don't Deny Your Love (Tele)

Too Much (335)

Cannonball Shuffle

Never Be title?

Nobody's Fault But Mine (Tele) Otis Redding B-side said RF

Peace On My Mind (wow! beautiful song)

Lovin' Cup (Tele)

Supernatural (335)

Moonchild Child Blues (Encore)

Blind Leading The Blind

Been to a lot of RF shows, but this time one thing I noticed was some really, really lightning fast playing. (this is not flash)
Great vocals,groovy band(Gary Novak,Travis Carlton)respectful crowd.

Oh yeah, Italian Boots,Black pants, and red T-Shirt that said Inspi (Red) on the front.

Damn fine all-inclusive review, MLD!

Just wondering though, what would the "Inspi" mean on the front of the t-shirt?

Thank you MOMO, great review, and a new tee-shirt, i liked the UNCUT t-shirt from the Landeau collaboration too. But red inspiration sounds cool. Wink

I was there, great show! Fiery playing, more so than I've seen him do in a while.... Three of them sounded huge! The Dumble sounded incredible too. Perfect evening....

(RED) products are helping to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund (to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Africa). Lots of companies are getting involved in (RED) line marketing. You can get involved on a personal level by buying (RED).

Cool They shoulda' made us forum folks wear carnations in our lapels so that we could recognize each other! (And I see that Paul G hasn't checked in yet -- thanks for saying hi! Great to see you again.)

A couple of toughts:

Robben was as enegized as I've ever heard or seen him. Incredible playing. What really stood out for me, however, was the energy that came out in "Riley B. King" and "Peace On My Mind," neither of which is what you'd call a rockin' tune, and each of which was fantastic.

Robben seemed to be having as much fun as I've ever seen him have, too. It couldn't have hurt that Pat was in the wings helping out wiith the set-up (and it was great to see him -- regretted that I didn't get a chance to say hi and thank him for all of the Blue Rockit work he does). Robben's gentle humor as he tuned up the recalcitrant Tele on stage was fun, but made me wonder: Does he miss Daved's able hand?

Does anyone know anything about the opening act, "Biirdie"? I'll say this: They certainly were earnest. And it was pretty clearly not their crowd, but the folks in the audience still gave them a nice welcome. And their lead signer said some very gracious things about being on the tour with Robben and Co. But who are they?

And speaking of who are they, does anyone know who those folks back in the bar and restaurant area were? I assume they were watching an NBA game on TV or something and chatting up about it, maybe assuming that what was coming over the PA was a recording of Robben. As if they couldn't believe that he was actually there live, just around the corner in the other room. Admittedly, however, the noise from the bar group only surfaced during the breaks. The Dumble, Carlton's rig and Novak's power pretty well drowned out the bar crowd during the songs.

Is Gary Novak a 120 volt guy plugged into a 240 volt socket, or what?? This is only the second time I've heard him with Robben. What tremendous energy, and what an ability to mix time signatures and still keep the beat pumpin'. Travis Carlton is no slouch either, and seemed genuinely humble about the tremedous reception he got from the crowd. Not only was Robben at his sharpest, but to hear him wiith two guys with whom he was totally in tune was something else.

One final comment: It's too bad that SoHo doesn't have room for the sort of dance floor that Moe's Alley (Santa Cruz) has. I was surrounded by folks (with whom I joined right in) who were pretty tough on those flimsy seats SoHo sets out, with some pretty heavy seat-dancing.

If you're in Southern Cal, Robben's at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills tomorrow night. Well worth the drive, even if it's a long one.

And by the way, hi everyone. It's been too long.
