Friends,

It would be great to be able to find other local players and jam! Especially since there would be some commonality, ie, appreciating great guitar music, and perhaps knowing some of the same tunes. And everyone knows the blues...

I tried Craigslist, but ended up getting calls from radioactive heavy-metal players...

I wish you lived near Los Angeles, Rob. I've been wanting to do the same thing in my area for quite a while.

It's not all that far from San Clemente to LA...
I take my guitars to John Carruthers in Venice, takes about an hour. Maybe a monthly get-together would be the way to go. There must be a lot of players in the area interested in the same thing. Let me know if you are interested in pursuing this idea. I'm a laid-back kinda guy, and I'm more interested in playing WITH people and listening to the big picture than trying to play all my favorite licks. I play bass too.

Definitely interested. I'm on the very same page as you. I just want to play with other musicians who want to make some music and maybe learn a thing or two from each other. Do you know any drummers?

I don't know any drummers yet. I'm new to the area, so just starting to look around. Also, I'm out of town a lot, on the road for work (not playing). I take a travel electric guitar with me, and a Pandora Box. I can plug my ipod into the Box, and jam along with Robben on my overnights out of town, so I do get to play a lot. Lately I've been listening to Handful of Blues, and Blue Moon. I like figuring out the chords and rhythm parts, and often find it's more difficult to nail down than the leads. I mostly play a Les Paul or Tele thru a Mesa Boogie, which I have had since 1976!!!

I lived and played around Santa Monica late 70's/early 80's, and had many opportunities to see Robben live, up close in small clubs. Just last month I had the treat of a lifetime and saw Robben and Larry Carlton tear it up down in San Diego. The good news is that they will release a joint recording next year. Talk about inspirational!!! Also, Larry is playing 2 nights at the Suncoast in Las Vegas, at the beginning of February. I made sure I had those days off!
So, I hope we can work something out. It's always more fun to play with humans than ipods.

Cool "My" drummer just had hip replacement surgery. But once he's healed, hey, Santa Monica isn't that far away. I'll keep in eye on this part of the forum.

Hi,

I live in Las Vegas and have a band I jam with. We play close to where LC is playing, I will be at one of the shows.

Let me know if you want to set up a good fun jam around that time. I should be able to set you up with an Amp.

Later
Rob

Hey Guys,

Wow, jams everywhere! Blade, I live in San Clemente, but don't mind driving. Take some chicken soup to your drummer so he gets better soon!

Rob (rainmakr63), that sounds great! The LC experience would be even better if there was some jamming involved! Larry does a great show, I always end up playing til dawn after seeing him play. Last year he came out after the show to sign autographs and hang out with fans for about half an hour. What a great guy. Anyway, I end up in LAS pretty often for work, maybe we could do some string bending before Feb. Say, have you ever gone to COWTOWN GUITARS? Their ad in Vintage Guitar always looks interesting. I'm afraid to go there, it might cost me!

Keep the rock rolling,

Rob

"Cowtown" is a fine store, a good selection of vintage gear. I don't buy much anymore I have about all i need, and I am cheap at this stage of my life.

Ed Roman's I would like to go into but have not, Ebay is my way.

We are jamming later today, I will let the dudes know that someone may be sitting in every once in a while. We play Rock/progbluse, covers mostly.

Send me an e-mail and I will forward you a list of all the songs we know, and talk details.

Later

Whoa, pretty inspiring up towards Rocky Mountain way... I end up in Denver now and then. Maybe we need a page where players can find local jam buddies. At least we would have good taste in music to start with.

Are there any good websites that you can find local musicians? I found a couple site but they dont seem like they stay current and that people really use them.
