The show Robben did Hellendoorn does make me forget all what happened Amsterdam. He played the setlist reversed. Started with "lovin cup" (the encore in Amsterdam) and ended with "keep on running" (the start in Amsterdam). Great and extentended versions of "the way you treated me", "help the poor" and ""it don't make sense". The band played more together, with a lot of inspiration, great solos and jazzy improvisations. Robben was cookin'. And I like more and more the songs of the new CD. Big smile for our hero. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Great to hear this, Henk. I hope Robben will forget Amsterdam too! In fact he even skipped "it don't make sense" there. I saw it on the setlist that the sound technician had with her. Can you imagine that? Embarassed

Hi Leftbender,

Yes, he skipped "it don't make sense", but he did play "don't let me be misunderstood" in Amsterdam. In Hellendoorn there was no misunderstandig at all. I'm looking forward to Verviers.

All you sons of you know whats! 3 shows in a row that just MAYBE were as good as my two in a row in Nevada earlier this year, I'm JEALOUS of all Europeans right now, no doubt able to watch Robben play for chump change at multiple venues within a relatively short distance!!

Lucky fools better get in those cars and drive to his next few shows!

Congrats Robben camp, on all those CD sales!! Keep it Up

Daved: remember that I had trouble finding copies of Keep on Running in Denver, but maybe it was just too soon after release date?

Grant

Hi Henk,

I was there as well in Hellendoorn but i didn't see the show in Amsterdam (glad for that by the way).

But you have to admit that that was NOT the Robben we all know and would like to see over there in Hellendoorn!

He had troubles with his sound as if he didn't like it (although it was very good I thought), he was too much aware of the being of his amp, he went down on his knees a couple of times to check what was wrong with the monitors and his improvising was NOT as inventive as i've seen him do it on all the shows before! It was VERY good guitar playing but not the Robben i used to see in previous shows (like the show he did last year in Paradiso). He just didn't seem to be happy on stage and he also seemed to have some tiny voice problems.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i didn't even think that the band was that good, there wasn't much joy in their playing, it was too much of a job that had to be done. I just thought the combination wasn't that good. But again, i'm only comparing to what i saw and heard in the previous shows and all of this is just my own opinion.

Don't get me wrong, i had a fantastic night and loved to see him and the guys play and to hear his new songs but i'm looking forward to see him next year and hopefully he'll be in a better mood than Wednesday!

regards, Johan

Hi Johan,

I think there is no right or wrong. It's just a matter of taste. I have a good evening when I can get into the music, feel the emotion and have no need to analyze it. On one point I agree: there ain't nothing but the Blue Line. As Robben said it on one of his instructional videos: "we (the Blue Line) got a Thing". That was indeed a great thing.

Henk.

It seems we are all looking back on a wonderful tour in Europe. On
http://www.lantaarn.nl/ you will find 4 pictures with Robben made in "de Lantaarn" (= the latern) by Herman Klein Nagelvoort. Click on foto's and select Robben Ford. I will see if I can place some pictures of Verviers I made by myself.
Henk.
