So, I just got back from NYC after seeing Robben at the Highline Ballroom, and all I can say is Oh my ?*!!*?* God!! Yes, my usual eloquence has been reduced to three words and an expletive. This is the ninth time I've seen him, and without question the best. He and the band were absolutely on fire, and pulled out all the stops. A couple of nice surprises as well--extended his improv during the beginning of The Way You Treated Me, played a fantastic version of Nobody's Fault But Mine, and tore the roof off the club. And I thought nothing could top Lovin' Cup from the '99 show in Portland, ME. Boy, was I wrong! Just amazing.

Now, if only he'd release a live album...

Sounds like you had the same experience I did last Saturday, Devin! Shocked

Like I said in my thread, I don't see how he is able to do this time after time after time...

Smile

I am trying to get some words together in order to chime in . But i can't .
Oh well ! Robben's impact is so powerful that i can't figure out how to say.
A great improvisator , oh yes , even within the "restricted" language of blues idioma. It's never the same . Each concert is kind of unique. I know that sounds silly but it's so true . Among all my Ford concerts i can speak only of 2 being average , but maybe it was me .....One in New Morning, Paris in 1992 , obviously the audience was 87%Guitar players & 13% girlfiends......They choose to hammer on us.
And the one in Cannes where Lucky Peterson as a 1st act tored the house down....must have been 50 persons for Blueline out for 400 .I don't know mr Ford on a personnal basis but i think i can tell he was not so happy by the way he was obviously tweaking his amp.
More about this unique gift , when i've been in the bay area 4 years ago ,
i've seen 3 gigs in a week and that was incredible , it's like raga in a way, the expression of the very moment. And the most intimate is the venue ,the most simple is the audience (hence my Paris audience tease) , the most intense is the RAGA.

Yes and it's great to listen great impro . It's magic/

Once again excuse me for the poor english.
