Attended the MBBF early A.M. on Saturday the 28Th of June to volunteer my services in exchange for free access (request denied-no volunteers needed) with my primary agenda being there to EXP Robben Ford- scheduled to perform the closing set @ 9:30 P.M. on the Garden Stage. Paid the $35 grounds entrance fee, waited in line for the gates to open @ 10:00 A.M.
Entered the Monterey Fair Grounds/Blues Mecca @ approximately 10:10 A.M. after security check & proceeded to fill-up ALL of my blues deprived senses for the next several hours with sights (too many fine women), sounds (too many performances to cover on three stages), arts/crafts (too much to collect), food (too many cuisines to sample), beverages (too many bars available).
By the time Robben's set arrived I was already on sensory OVER-load:
I WAS NUMB- in more ways than one! My ears were both ringing from the pounding of 11 hours of non-stop-high-volume-electronic-music! My blurry eyes were sore from trying to focus my camera lens upon the most attractive female photo opportunities- through the smoky haze of wildfires & ASH & BBQ grills & dust swirling...with my head & belly full of merlot, ganja, beans/rice/greens & cornbread!
Mr. Ford's performance was enhanced by so many attending the Garden Stage the theater overflowed to SRO. I finally stumbled upon an open space behind the bleachers along the ivy covered fence-row with a clear shot of stage right. A few fans in the front row were shooting images of the stage with their flash & blinding Robben- which caused him to become pissed-off enough to tell them to "cool it!" I don't know if that little incident had any direct effect upon his performance- but all of those heavenly harmony jam notes reverberating from Robben's guitar strings "Made My Day"!!! _________________ <sUpErNaTuRaL>
