The Ford Blues Blues Band will feature Robben and Volker Strifler at the free concert series held in Todd Park, Ukiah. If you haven't seen these two powerhouse guitar players together you're in for a treat.
Volker recently opened for BB King at the Mondavi Center in Davis and blew the crowd away. If anyone is going to Memphis for the IBC go check out his band - you won't be disappointed!
Hope anyone who is a voting member of NARAS cast their vote for [i]Truth!

Hi DG,
Where is Todd Park, Ukiah? And what is the date of this concert. I'd love to see it.

Yes, Robben is scheduled to play with his brothers here in his hometown, Ukiah. Each summer a series of free concerts are presented in the city park, sponsored by local businesses. Every few years the Ford brothers play one of the gigs, and Robben seems to get home and join them if he can.
The park is a nice venue, many families come and picnic and enjoy the concerts. Sound is mediocre, as it is outdoors, but a good time none the less.
No mention of Volker S this year, but you never know who might show up!
Sunday, June 29, 6pm, Todd Grove Park in Ukiah, Ca. Get there early to get close and sit in the shade. Bring low backed chairs, picnic eats and your favorite beverages! _________________ just another small town boy from northern california |

Just had dinner with Robben and we spoke of this date. Robben says he believes that Volker WILL be playing too. _________________ B C-ing U!

How cool to see Robben perform in his hometown! And Volker is great! If you don't have his albums, get them. He's a very tasty player and these are a must for any blues fan.
Have a great time! (I'd be there myself if I lived anywhere near Ukiah) _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |

Unfortunately, here in Ukiah we have been under a pall of smoke from many wildfires in the area the last few weeks. The Ford Brothers show, which was scheduled for outside at the city park, was canceled last weekend. The smoky conditions were rated quite unhealthy.
The show has been re-scheduled to Sept 7, at 4pm.

The Blue Rock'it website says that Mark Ford will also play the rescheduled show Sept. 7th. I wish I could be there. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

The re-scheduled Ford Brothers Concert in the Park is this weekend here in Ukiah. Robben will join Pat and Mark at Todd Grove Park, music starting at 5pm. Haven't heard if Volker will play, but here's hoping he, and perhaps others will sit in!
Sunday 9/7 5pm Ukiah

Wow what a beautiful day in Ukiah! Great park, great people, and an awesome town. We arrived in Ukiah around 11:00 am and we drove directly to Todd Grove Park, what a great setting. When we arrived the city stage/sound guys were there, we walked around the park looking for a shady spot since it was going to be about a 100 degrees that day. As we were putting our blanket and chairs down Pat Ford unloaded a few items and walked right next to our spot and laid down two blankets. Once we had our spot we drove a round to check out the city Ukiah. We saw a couple of music stores and a HUGE neon Ukiah Theatre sign which my dad took a couple of pictures with me under it. We got a bite to eat and we had heard that there was going to be a sound check at about 3:00 so we wanted to get there early. If you have never seen/heard Robben do a sound check you should, quite a different experience than any other sound check that you will ever hear. The concert started at around 5:00, Robben and Volker on guitar, Dewayne Pate on bass, Pat on drums, Tony Lufrano on keys, and Andy Just on harmonica. The first song was Keep On Running then Tell Me Mama, How Deep In The Blues Do You Want To Go, Movin' On, Moonchild Blues, It's About Time (never heard before), Lateral Climb, Indianola, Another Fine Day, a song I hadn't heard before, Cannonball Shuffle, Too Much, Taste and Try, Riley B. King, She's Doggin', Help The Poor, Nobody's Fault But Mine, and finally Get Yourself Together. The concert was awesome, everybody played great especially Volker! Robben was very sensitive on the photography issue, although there was no pre-warning stating photography, flash or nonflash would be forbidden during the concert. When the concert started it was still daylight, and it was until their first break. There were several times when Robben had an issue with people taking photos, behind and infront of the stage, I'm not sure what the issue is with the photography but it seemed to be distracting to Robben and it was evident in his playing. This seems to be a "watered-down" version of what happened at the Monterey Jazz Festival, in terms of his reaction to photo taking. I hope that he overcomes it or finds a way to cope with the photography issue. Other than that we had a great time, great food, great people, and great music. _________________ www.myspace.com/phillbensonblues |
