Robben Ford Discussion

Hi Daved,

I notice that Robben has 2 goldtops:

- one with P90
- one with Humbuckers (the one he borrowed from Larry?)

I just bought a Les Paul Goldtop 1957 ressue.
The neck on my 57 is huge. Apparently, this is how the original Les Pauls were made.

Would you consider the necks on Robbens goldtops pretty big?

Since my original post, I have had the 57 vos goldtop now for a few months now and I am getting used to it.

The neck is seriously big that it almost feels like a classical guitar. I have been getting used to it, so my other guitars feel "small" now. Very Happy

Also, the big neck makes me play slower, which is good.

I can now understand why Robben holds his left hand in that upright way: it makes it easier to switch guitars with different neck sizes.

Great clip and great playing! Thanks for sharing it. I find the same thing with my Les Paul. The size of the neck makes me play slower.

Altho those LP necks are larger halfrounds in the traditional Gibson way, they did not feel as big and cumbersome to me.

thanks. I got the backing from the gear page. Its a nice guitar, really fat sounding and bass-friendly compared to a standard les paul. I am not 100% convinced about the pickups (Burstbuckers 1 and 2). I thought that I would be on the safe side, given that Robben uses those pickups, but they don't seem to work for me as well as I expected.
