|
|
I saw a post on the Les Paul Forum just now and the guy mentioned that he saw Robben play last night (which I guess would have been at BB Kings in New York) and that he was using Larry's '57 GT. I thought Robben gave it back out of fear of something happening to it on the road? Does anybody have more info on this? _________________ "Music is the only thing that you can share with a million million people and you don't lose, you gain. I was listening to "Soul On Ten" today, wondering what guitars were played on various songs. I think I hear the goldtop on some.
(I know it's on the cover picture, but who knows ...) |

It'll be tough to tell what was played on what song; a Tele, 335, and LP all sound the similar in Robben's hands! I swear sometimes that Tele shocks me when I hear the FAT tone Robben pulls out of it. _________________ "Music is the only thing that you can share with a million million people and you don't lose, you gain. I don't know about Soul on Ten and BB King's Grill...but in youtube there's a BUNCH of videos (including sound checks) with the Gold Les Paul...and you can tell that they're all from last week and or very recently.
Man, I'm not a fan of Les Pauls at all...but he can make them SING like no other. Quite ironic, I might say. |

I can't give you a definitive answer to this subject as I haven't been out on these shows, but are you sure it's LC's gold LP, and not Robben's own, that Robben is using? Those two have often been confused in the past. _________________ B C-ing U!

Hi Daved, I was assuming that he stopped using it for a time, not necessarily that he returned it. Possibly, you know for sure. |

Hi Daved, I saw Robben a few weeks ago in Brescia Italy, and he used a gold top Les Paul for most of the show, it was fairly beat up with humbuckers, I just assumed it was Larrys. I was at the sound check when one of the road crew gave it a blast, it just rang like a bell throughout the whole piazza.
Robben used Taku's guitar for a few numbers, it also sounded great but with a more focused mid range, the Les Paul to my ears sounded more open and wirey. The super reverb and twin amps looked kind of vintage and not reissues, but it may have been the lights. No zen drive used for this gig.
Robben was joined by a young Italian guy from X-factor who sang great vocals on Supernatural. All in all it was a wonderful gig and a great way to celebrate my birthday. My previous birthday was celebrated at the Savona castle gig, so I kind of hope Robben plays Italy next July for my 50th.
Are you fan of the Prisoner tv show? I'm not a number I'm a free man |

I haven't seen anything with my own eyes, someone on the Les Paul Forum just said they saw him using it, they could have been mistaken.
Is Robben's a '57 as well? I wasn't aware that he had a vintage/really beat up Goldtop. _________________ "Music is the only thing that you can share with a million million people and you don't lose, you gain.
