For what its worth, I just installed some old lace sensors I had laying around in my deluxe AM strat. They sound fantastic. I went from the sumarium cobalt to Van Zant Blues, to Klein 61's, to the lace sensors.
The moral of the story for me is that all the above pups are very good, but for what ever my ear was wanting, the lace sensors were the best match with the guitar in this case. The guitar itself is kind if mid heavy and mellow in the upper range. The lace sensors tend to be pretty bright without being brittle, so they livened up the guitar without losing too much in the mids. I almost did't try them in this guitar based on my previous experience with them in a different guitar. Glad I did.
So I guess what I've learned is to try to match pups to the guitar. Sometimes its a case of I'll know it when I hear it. Each body and neck emphasize a different range of frequencies and the pup choice can compliment that or not.
Trial and error can be costly and frustrating for the wife but sometimes you don't get the whole perspective from gear reviews.
