Just read the interview with Mike Landau in this month's UK Guitarist magazine - at the end of the interview he says that he's soon to be recording an album with Robben who wants it to be a rock kind of record - WE NEED MORE INFO!!! |

I'd already seen that thread but didn't register that Mike Landau was involved. Should be cool - Robben and Mike Landau trading licks would be a treat. |

That would be awesome. I remember seeing Landau with Robben in the eighties. Also seen the live bake potato vids. Two great players who feed off each other and compliment each other well. This should be great. |

A recording with Mike and Robben would be cool.
Mike and Robben did a gig last year in Seattle, and it was quite different from other Robben Ford gigs I've seen. Mike changes the sonic landscape a bit, and I think it gave Robben some room to do things he normally doesn't. This show had a nice variety of music and playing styles, although I hoped Mike would have been featured a bit more. I enjoy Robben's music with Larry Carlton, but I prefer the contrast of styles more with Mike Landau. |

In an interview published today on the All About Jazz website, Robben has this to say about this project:
AAJ: You have an upcoming project with Gary Novak, Mike Landau and Jimmy Haslip. Can you give us an idea of what that project's going to entail?
RF: It's kind of a spin off of a studio band that Jimmy Haslip , Vinnie Colaiuta and I had called Jing Chi. Jing Chi made a couple of studio records and we performed only twice live, from which we recorded a live album. When the record company called and asked if we'd do another record, Vinnie wasn't available, so we decided to do something else and we'll give it a new name to go along with the new line up. This group will be a bit more rock than my thing and more instrumental than what my thing has been lately, but it's going to be a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it. |

I sure would like to be a fly on the wall for these sessions. Any news about this would be appreciated.

Spoke with Robben last night.
They've been recording the album.
I will be teching Robben in the studio later this week for 'cleanup' work.
He says it is a much more 'rock' oriented album than the previous Jing-Chi discs.
He guestimates a release after the first of the year... January, maybe? _________________ B C-ing U!

I wonder what name they'll choose ? Mike Landau picks some great names for his bands. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |
