Hello all,
When playing gigs I`ve tended to stick with the one guitar throughout.
The one guitar being my PRS McCarthy. It never goes out of tune and has a nice range of tones. So no reason to change.
I recently got my old Strat fixed up and wanna give it a blast.
This may sound like a stupid question but;
What is the correct procedure when changing guitars live?
Do I drop volume on amp and guitar before I pull the lead out? Do I pull the lead out slightly from the amp?
Forgive my ignorance.

Hi Burger, there are a few ways to do this. If you do not have a guitar tech, like most of us, buy yourself a Boss TU2 Chromatic Tuner. This is a fine tuner in pedal form. If you put it at the end of your pedal loop and you kick it, the signal to the amp will be cut without any noise, and the tuner is switched on. In this way you can unplug your guitar at full volume without hearing anything.
Another way is, like Robben does, is using a volume pedal to cut the signal.

You can also get cords with a spring loaded signal breaker at the tip that allow you to unplug without "the noise".

I've used a volume pedal for years. Another of my group uses a brand of "noiseless" cable. He is constantly sending them back because they quit being silent. I've still got my same volume pedal!

Planet Waves makes a circut breaker cable.Push a button and silently pull the cable out. Even better, I get my cables custom made from Accusound with silent neutrik ends on them. No button, no pops.

My cables from Accusound all have the silent Neutrik ends on them. No need for a circut breaker switch. Just pull the cable from the guitar. Silence.
