Enjoyed Renegade Creation at the Grass Valley Community Theatre - fun time, Michael did a few solos that were off the hook. They must call it Grass Valley for a reason.

I also enjoyed Renegade Creation last night at the Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room.

The show started with Indianola with RF playing the Saskata (sp?), which he set down after the first tune and never returned to it, playing the Tele the remainder of the night. Among the familiar tunes to me were Baby, Please Set A Date, Spoonful, and the encore of Lovin' Cup. I know there were a few others but I don't recall them at the moment.

He played through a Super Reverb and another head/cabinet which could have been a Bludo, not sure...definitely not the Dumble.

Michael Landau played a Strat through two combos, but couldn't tell what they were. What a player! Definitely a contrasting style from Robben, but very complimentary to each other. Robben was definitely more present in the mix.

Jimmy Haslip was laying in the weeds for the first 2/3s of the show, but they turned him loose on Spoonful. A killer solo that brought down the house! As a bass player myself, it's real weird to watch him play left-handed strung upside down...it just doesn't compute, but he sure makes it work.

Gary Novak on drums, my first time seeing him. Also a killer musician...kind of heavy handed but oh, so tasteful! Some of the best floor tom sounds (he had two of 'em) I've ever heard.

Great show all around. Two or three tunes where the guitar interplay was just incredible, but all four guys playing as one...lots of smiles all around. It seemed that Gary and Jimmy were particularly enjoying playing together. Michael's tunes were interesting (I haven't really immersed myself in the Renegade Creation CD as yet), lots of good use of dynamics. And he's a great player.

Pat Ford was the tech on the gig.

All for now. Catch 'em if you can!

The Grass Valley mix was quite the opposite. Michael Landau blew thru in the mix, while Robben played some incredible solos - he was perfectly content letting Michael do what he does. Robben enjoys hitting the perfect chord at the right time - very cool. The place only has about 10 rows of seating and holds about 250.
