Ever wonder what ever happened to the Fender Robben Ford model. Low and behold it's back as a Squire Esprit and it's a pretty awesome guitar. I didn't get pricing information but this is a quality instrument and has many of the features that Robben Ford developed with the Fender Custom Shop. It's chambered and has the Robben neck joint - see photos below!

It's $399 at Music123:

Pretty tempting, I'd say!

Hey...

Whassup with the inlay fret marker at the #1 fret??? I don't recall seeing that on most guitars.

Heck, even I can find fret #1 without a marker!!! Razz

Has anyone played this guitar? I am looking to get a good backup guitar for gigs, etc. Does anyone know the quality of this model? Being that it's A LOT cheaper than Robben's model was, I just wonder if it can live up to the same quality. If I only had the cash, I would just throw down and buy a RF Baker....those are so sweet......

Yea, I played it and I still own one of the Custom Shops ones. I was surpised how good it was for a Squire. It played really great. For $400 bucks how can you go wrong!!

I contacted my local Guitar Center. They haven't heard of an "Ess-Sprit"! I didn't find one in Musician's Friend either. This must be a very new model. I'd sure like to have one. I'll have to hide it for a while, though. I just got the Custom Shop '54 Strat just before Christmas!

One of the dealers in Melbourne has scored one of these... whilst taking my guitar in for service the other day I was greeted by "aah... have we got something you might be interested in..."!

Not for sale though (yet) - just a review model that's doing the rounds. It plays pretty good - better pickups wouldn't go astray though. My only complaint is that the headstock looks a bit pointy... but this one was a wine red model and looks stunning.

Cool

Are these spruce? I have an 84 Esprit that's maple on top and never had the spare change to get a regular one. But for $400, I might.

Nope. All mahagony (body and neck, no top) from what I've read.

The Squier Esprit must be very new. It's not even on Squier's website yet, and Music 123 is the only place I've found it so far. It's a very tempting deal! It would be interesting to get Robben's opinion on this version(hint).

They do look good! That M80 also looks very nice. I guess they will be in the next catalog from the Friend, although I'm surprised they aren't in the online catalog yet. Maybe I can hold out long enough to see what their price will be-but I'm jonesing real bad right now.

The tone is great! It would no doubt benefit from a couple of Duncans (it has "Duncan Designed" p/u's), but it sounds really nice. The neck is a bit wider that on my strats and my tele, but I think I can get used to that. So far, so good! I just hate that I'm off this weekend. I can't wait to gig with it.
