In the interests of full disclosure, this is not a new interview - it is from 2007 and is being republished for some reason there... it was just after (or just before?) the release of Truth. |

Nothing to do with the OP which is just posting a new article... but...
honestly, when I read these type of articles in 2011, it reminds me again of how much I feel sorry for Robben dealing with the media grind. So much interesting work he's doing, great CD releases, and they reprint this?
Just how many times must the journalist put him through the futile exercise of hearing the same questions, with Robben having to come up with an interesting twist to essentially the same answer .. over and over again..?
I know this session was 2007, and overall it's not the worst interview ever, but Robben has answered so many of those questions 20 years ago.. he's told the history of his Fender model, his rig, his influences etc.. on video nearly twenty years ago.. all the way through to the Art of series..
Last year I sat through a live Q&A with Robben and the interviewer professed to be a huge fan.. then stumbled his way through each of these cliched questions.. and as a gentleman, Robben did his best to make it sound like it was an interesting question. The thing that hits me straight away is that this guy has very little idea of what Robben's been doing, and that everyone in the room that's even a casual fan, already knows the answers and thinks your wasting the opportunity to let the guy express something new that he's got to say. (If you have ears, you don't need to ask about the Dumble)
On the off chance that a journalist might do some research before an interview.. before you stoop to asking Robben about his influences again, be certain to ask: Do you think those crystals that people add to their pools to turn the water blue when you piss in the pool is actually a form of entrapment?
The answer to which would at least be new information.
Don't know if anyone else thinks this way.

Very cool-thanks for posting the interview, I hadn't seen it. I often wonder how Robben deals with the media grind too, must be really tough sometimes... |

The reason which led Robben to leave the Miles Davis band are quite revealing.
Good, honest interview overall. _________________ -> my stuff |

I've read this article several times since it was first published and I always find something new and interesting about it. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |
