Hello all. I know Robben does lurk here occasionally, and I have a suggestion for him. This morning I heard a song by the Homemade Jamz Blues Band called "Heartless". As soon as I heard it, it struck me that it was the kind of song Robben would play. The arrangement is very sparse with a lot of potential for those great chord voicings Robben uses. The lyric is interesting and along the lines of "Nothing to Nobody". I think he could do a killer version of it. Let's see what happens!

If you are there Robben...it's a crime that Outlaw Blues isn't out there for the world to hear. I'd also be bold enough to request...please play it now! I'd do it, but...that wouldn't be quite the same somehow. |

I feel the same, regarding the song , Outlaw Blues, which, as you know , was a freebie / Flexi disc in a 1988 Guitar player magazine.
I asked Robben, face to face, in the 90's, if he would consider, recording this track again, & he answered, "Nah", I'm done with that shit".
As we all know, feelings change, from time to time, so, whether he would answer the same, now,...who know's. |

That's an interesting response considering that is a blues tune and he's been playin' blues for just a little while now. I think that style of tune fits right in with the stuff on Truth/Soul on Ten. Oh well...I suppose Trane might have answered a Giant Steps question in the same manner if the mood was dark. Maybe some negative associations with the song. We all have days. All conjecture...all I can say is that certain tunes make me want to practice. Like...NOW! That's one of them. |
