I have always felt Sahara Moon to be one of the most moving of RF's tunes. I know it was recorded at an odd phase of his career and doesn't get played much, and I have never heard him play it live. I would love to!
Anyway, I was writing a tune in Db and it has a jazz vibe to it. I was thinking in my head when adding lyrics of something Boz Scaggs would sing. I don't sing, but I have to have something in mind to time the lyrics.
I play in two fairly busy christian bands for two churches and decided to put christian lyrics to it. We have never played it as I have not put it before either band at this time. Fast forward.
We had an extended time to fill recently at a large gathering in a new building with an auditorium, wood floors etc.
Asking the band to rag something between Dbmaj7 and Bmaj7 I was jamming lightly and happened on the intro to Sahara Moon and the song unfolded quite naturally. The tone in this new building is amazing and I just can't tell you how appropriate this song can be spiritually.
No idea why I felt like sharing it, but what a fantastic tune to meditate to...
