Hello All,
Just saw the Yellowjackets last nite in Austin. Robben filled in for Bob Mintzer and what a show. Actually there was a 7pm & 9:30 show and I saw both shows. I've never seen Robben before, and I was definitely pleased with the performances. we talked with him and Jimmy Haslip after the late show and they said he only had 1 rehearsal before the shows. I mean, he was basically playing what Bob would normally play on the sax. Pretty amazing. He hasn't played with them in about 7 years. He is only doing the Austin shows and then tonite in Atlanta and that's it. So I feel pretty lucky to have seen such unique shows. It was a great nite of Jazz and a couple of shows I won't soon forget.
Peace,

I'm pissed that I missed that show. I was traveling all week, got home late last night, looked at the paper this morning and saw the ad that said "Yellowjackets Featuring Robben Ford." The theatre that they played at is just 3 miles down the road from my house. Robben never comes to Austin! Damn! |

No but he is coming to OKC and if you work for the government you have the day off. Presidents day, come on up to Soonerville we will show you a good time. Got a few good tickets left and Robben will be here two days.
Jimmy Haslip too.

Not quite seven years, but not very often, either. Two summers ago the original four 'Jackets reunited for a concert at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood. A fantastic night. Austin sounds equally fantastic. Glad you had the chance to catch them. _________________ - BlueRunner |

From a friend of mine who did manage to make the Austin show...
robben was excellent. he was having to read a lot, so his creative juices weren't flowing as much as they would be if he were real comfortable with the music. they did one of his songs for an encore and he was able to cut loose. i was impressed with mark baylor (the drummer). i think he is one of the best i have heard. |
