I am wondering if anyone knows of software that allows the user to enter notes onto a displayed fretboard (similar to Aeolian's example in the Indianola thread) but can "stream" sequential changes in the notes so you can play along. I currently use tablature to document a transcribed solo, but for me it would be more meaningful to have a visual representation of what to play. I hope this makes sense.

I don't really follow what you mean by streaming sequential changes in the notes. Do you just want to input notes on a fretboard diagram and then have them play back?

Hi, Bill,
In response to your question, I want to be able to input notes on a fretboard diagram and set a tempo where each succeeding note is displayed in accordance with the tempo. So, let's say the first note of a solo is the G on the 6th string, 3rd fret - I would indicate that note on the fretboard display. Then, assume the next note of the solo is the E 6th string open - I would indicate that note as coming next in the sequence. Then in a "playback" mode the first screen would display the G and the next screen would display the E at a rate of speed set by selecting the tempo. You could call it "fretboard view tablature".
Does this help? (maybe I should learn to read music!)

I don't think I have ever seen any software that will do exactly what you describe. I have seen software that will let you inout tablature by clicking notes on a fretboard diagram, and that will play back tab while displaying the notes on a fretboard diagram, but I don't think that's exactly what you're looking for. Sorry about that. I hope you can find what you want.

Hi, i think you should learn music notation ;
My cake walk software can play the music while displaying the score in tempo (midi instruments). So you can practice . I can get scores out of any midi files.  But i 've never seen the same with a tab. Blob |

The band in the box software can display a fretboard as well as the keyboard that normally comes up. Dots flash across the fretboard as the program plays that instrument, but I can't keep up with it. Especially when I have it doing solos "in the style of" Charlie Parker 
Also, that was Justpassingby who had the chord charts. I made up some diagrams using a graphics program I have called Canvas for things like superimposing minor pentatonic substitutions in minor thirds in each position (using different color dots for each sub) but I've never posted them here. Maybe now that I have a site I can host the pictures, I can do some of this.
