Any info is helpful.
Thanks,

You are correct... Baker is no more... the name, etc. was bought by Ed Roman at a bankruptcy auction. The word is that Gene will be leaving Ernie Ball and will be back making the Baker guitars again on his own. Check out his site for additional info - www.meangene.org. |

I dont know where you can find one now...they've become as rare as hen's teeth. The good news is that Gene is firing up the biz again, so if you contact him...he'll probably build one for you.
I absolutely LOVE my trans Baker RF...with alder body/spruce top, Duncan'59 neck/JB bridge pups. Minitoggle coil splitter, neck to die for.
I understand why Robben has maintained loyalty to Gene since back in the Fender days. Superb build quality, excellent playability, and eye/ear candy of the first order!
To get more info...check over at the Gear Page, and look up Mude or Matte.

Sorry Scott!
I know that you're a RF owner, in Robben's own ebony finish!
Mine's trans red...very sweet. I got mine through Mude, actually.
Just before the $$ went up! I know that Matte's had Gene build him some 7 stringers, and is probably still in good touch with him.
I personally think the RF model is the strongest/most versatile guitar he's ever built.

I just installed some Duncan custom shop pups in mine. Alnico II mags, similar wire to 59s. A touch hotter too. Really nice improvement over the Lovers I had! Much more articulate neck and middle position tone!
Yeah JoeB63, I love you

There is a very odd looking Baker on ebay right now. It claims to have the RF style body - and does appear to - but the head is shaped unlike any Baker I've seen. Maybe I'm mistaken or it is bad picture, but it just looks goofy to me. The controls are in a place I've never seen on a Baker before, and normally the varitone switch has a plate under it, but this one doesn't. Could this be a "Baker" that was made from parts at the auction?
It is entirely possible that i have no idea what I'm talking about, but take a look and tell me what you think.

It's legit. It's on Gene's website. Finished May 2, 2003. Mahogany back, maple top, The Point Trem, etc. A truly unique and rare guitar. Wish I had some money! |
