I'd like to get some opinions on PRS guitars.

I have a Custom 24 which except for the shorter scale length I really enjoy. I can get a myriad of tones out of it.

FYI - I also play a custom shop tele that's really my wife's, but mine through marriage which is a smokin axe, she had it made to her specs, a tex-mex strat. I love Fenders, but bought the PRS for a change.

I want to replace my 12GH- 85 (I think that's the model) in my Rivera 55W, 1X12 with a Celestian vintage 30. Are they only reissues now? I have heard different things. The 85 has too much compression, it's not as smooth and open as I'd like.

I'd welcome any other recommendations of speakers.

Thanks,

LIRod

Is your Rivera the wide body combo? Those are great sounding cabinets. What are you looking for? The Vintage 30 has a great top end, is very efficient and dynamic but a bit soft on the bottom, especially in an open back cabinet. The Black Shadow 90 that Celestion makes for Mesa is a great speaker for a 1-12 open back as it has much more bottom end and the same efficiency as the V30. I am running a G12-H Anniversary in a Dumblish (partly open back) 1-12 and love it for the overall balance and dynamics. Pulled an Tone Tubby for it as the TT was way too compressed. One of the old G12-65's in my 2-12 cabinet bought the farm and they are very hard to find now that Robben uses them, so I'm going to replace it with the Webber reissue. We'll see how that works.
