It's the middle of the night and I just got back home from spending the day working with the Yellowjackets at the Musician's Institute in L.A.
The four bandmembers... Robben, Jimmy, Russ, and Will... all held individual clinics and then played a 70 minute concert for the M.I. students.
They all had a lot of fun and the students were very enthusiastic, appreciative, and suitably impressed. _________________ B C-ing U!

He Daved!
Wow!!
Can you post the set list?
I will never forget when I first discovered the Yellowjackests back in the early 80's. That band really just blew me away - the tunes (such great great writing), the grooves, the musicans, and Robben on guitar.
Robben's "Pass It On" solo just floors me even today. Frist of all, one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, then, incredible from a harmonic, melodic and compositional standpoint, then Robben just rips your heart out - blues, H/W diminished, melodic development, tone, dynamics, feel and touch.

Sorry but, no, Scott was not there.
I'm also sorry that I must confess I am not familiar enough with the Jackets material to remember the names of the tunes they played last nite... and I can't seem to find my setlist today. I do know that they played Help The Poor and Oasis from Robben's repetoire.
I see one of the students posted at the same time as I did last night. Maybe they, or another student who might be lurking, will be able to name those tunes.
As for Robben's gear, he used his full Dumble setup during his clinic.
But, when we did our soundcheck for the concert, after switching back and forth several times, he decided to play thru just the in-house Twin Reverb that had been provided by M.I. as a backup amp. The room acoustics, the styles of music, and the overall subtler volumes just lent more towards use of the Twin. It was a very well kept, good sounding Twin. He just plugged straight in, bypassing pedals and all, and went for it.
He used his 'new' LP for the entire show, except for Oasis, wherein he used his Tele.
I also sat in on a brief conversation with Jimmy & Robben, after the show, about the possibilities of Robben doing some more tourdates with the Yellowjackets later in the year, maybe even in Europe and/or Japan. But, altho Robben & Jimmy are very positive about such a collaboration, between Robben suporting his own album, support of the upcoming Jing Chi album, and the scheduling commitments of all the involved performers we'll... just have to wait and see what happens. _________________ B C-ing U!

I noticed that there just 2 or 3 days between the scheduled shows of the Jackets and the shows of Robben on the Canarian Islands. So is seems an easy possibility to colloborate. Do I have to change my vacation destination? Or are ther more shows schuduled in Europe?
