Hey everybody try and listen to "Her's 2 guitars" Question :
http://www.stevelukather.net/Session.aspx?id=277
Isn't Robben playing??
It says Hiram Bullock and stteve Lukather, but I seriously have my doubt. It sounds more than alot like good old Robby F. Very Happy
Any comments?

I've heard Hiram sound like Robben before but this is great playing. I'd believe it's Hiram. There's just enough of a difference in resolving lines and overall phrasing from where Robben has been at recently. Great tone too! I wonder if Hiram is conciously channeling Robben or it's just where he's at in this moment. Especially with Luke on the same session.

100%, without a doubt, "Here's Two Guitars" is Robben. Hiram cannot do that.

That obviously sounds a hell of a lot like Robben, but there is just something that seems 'off' a little. Its very subtle. So subtle, in fact, that I can't even say what it is with any certainty. The tone is very Robben-like, the phrasing, at times, is very Robben-like, but there are couple of places that just don't convince me.

I think Hiram can play that, no problem, and since its says its him, I'll have to believe it. It would be nice to know for sure.

In an interview in a Dutch guitar magazine Robben told about his co-operation with Edgar Winter. As you all know Winter plays bariton sax on Keep On Running. Robben told that he would do a return favour to Winter by playing on one of his albums. I'm not sure if it is this album you guys are talking about.

I think some of it's the way the phrases resolve. Even in the fusion playing, Robben usually uses a blues like way out of something. Hiram plays more Luke like in these spots. He's pushing into the phrase like Robben but coming out differently.

This German site credits Robben on the CD. Doesn't say which track.

It sounds very Robben to me.

Here's some interesting info from Luke's website:

"If you could start a project like the G3... besides you, mention two guitarists that you would like to share the stage with."

"Well, this is a hard question to answer as I have played with almost everyone. I have jammed with Satch and Vai, Jeff Beck, EVH etc... I really dig jamming with my son Trevor and I would love to play with Eric Johnson or Metheny. I think Me, Mike Landau and Robben Ford would be interesting. I am still a fan like all you guys. I still cant believe I get paid for my gig. Hahaha!"

Now look at that Landau, Luke and Robben - what a dream Very Happy

I repeat - I'll eat a bug if that ain't Robben (God, I hope I'm right)!!! Shocked

BTW: I also heard the slight variation in resolution, but I've also heard Robben take that kind of approach before as a featured artist. More importantly, I've never heard anyone imitate Robben that convincingly before - never!
