Went to both Robben Ford shows last night. I can only say that he was simply incredible. I'm still in a haze of amazement. I wish I could post the set list, but I can never remember it all. But I do remember Indanola, Badge, and Cannonball shuffle in both sets, and Chevrolet and Supernatural (encore) with killer wah in the second set. Again, simply incredible!
For Elizabeth, the obligatory wardrobe rundown- yellow suit, red T, and black leather shoes, white on the top portions with black spaghetti-thin laces. Robben was really looking stylish!
I also took some non-flash pictures and a 35-second movie clip of Robben during a killer solo, unfortunately without sound, but pretty awesome none the less. If someone can "show" me how to post the pictures and the clip, I'll do it asap!
And, thanks to Daved for giving me one of Robben's picks. Never got an authentic souvenir from anyone famous before!

ROBBEN & THE YELLOWJACKET
What a great night of music ! I saw both shows last night too. Johnny A. co-headlined the show with Robben. Johnny opened the early show and Robben opened the late show. I've been a Johnny A fan since hearing his first solo cd Sometime Tuesday Morning when it was first released, and I saw him open (without a band) for Robben at the Bottom Line in August of 2002 (Blue Moon tour).
Last night was Johnny's first Boston area appearance since the release of his new cd, Get Inside. Johnny's band included Jesse Bastos on bass and Chris Farr (sp?) on drums, neither of which appear on his new cd, but they are both good musicians and were able to recreate the sound of the new cd pretty closely. Both shows included a lot of songs from the new cd, and ended with Chuck Berry's Memphis Tennessee.
For those unfamiliar with Johnny A., he was a rock guitarist in the 90s and toured with Peter Wolf (former frontman for the J. Geils Band). I think he may have co-produced a cd with Peter Wolf as well. Today Johnny A. is becoming recognized as a fine guitarist in the contemporary, instrumental blues/jazz genre. I love Johnny's new cd, and to see him play it live I now have an even greater appreciation of his music (I'm inspired by how he fits so many notes into a phrase, and still gives the music an airy feeling). What draws me into his music is that he'll play something that feels very familiar, for example, the intro to Hip Bone reminds me of something by Steely Dan. Next thing, I've been sucked through the vortex and I'm totally grooving to a new tune, which i've never heard before. A lot of musicians do this, but Johnny A. does it really well when he's writing his music.
Now onto Robben .... ROBBEN & THE YELLOWJACKET Robben and the band were wonderful last night. I couldn't have wished for a better concert. His set list included a nice balance of music from Keep on Running, as well as favorites from Blue Moon, Supernatural, Handful of Blues and RF & the Blue Line. Each show was about one hour long and included the following songs:
The early show:
1) Over My Head
2) Indianola
3) The Way You Treated Me
4) Lovin' Cup
5) Cannonball Shuffle
6) Keep on Running
7) Help the Poor
8 ) Badge
9) Start It Up
The late show:
1) Over My Head
2) Indianola
3) Nothing to Nobody
4) Lovin' Cup
5) Cannonball Shuffle
6) Keep on Running
7) Moonchild Blues
8 ) Chevrolet
9) Badge
10) Supernatural
This was my first time seeing Hilary Jones. I've read here on the forum about Hilary's "power" playing, but I thought her soft, sensual cymbal accompaniment on Moonchild Blues during the late show was MAGICAL. Bob Malach on sax also played a freeform jazz solo during Moonchild Blues that was pretty amazing.
Other highlights of the show for me was Help The Poor -- played with a Bosa Nova twist The midsection of this song included a nice bass solo by Dewayne Pate accompanied by Hilary on drums, and then a drum solo accompanied by bass. The midsection solos were more traditional arrangements, but Robben played the Bosa Nova beat back into the end of the song. I thought the arrangement was very cool.
A jazzy arrangement of Nothing to Nobody featured Robben thumbing and fingerpicking during the beginning of the song and a wonderful extended solo in the song's midsection. Robben also thumbed and fingerpicked through the first part of Cannonball Shuffle.
The Regent Theatre is a good venue for the blues and I think it's great that they've put together a Blues Masters Guitar Series like this show. I'm really glad I went to both shows. It was a late night... Johnny A's second show got started at about 11:15 p.m. and he played till about 12:30 a.m. A lot of fans stayed till the end (why not?) and Johnny also played a different mix of songs from the first show, including a killer version of Jimmy Webb's Wichita Lineman.
Oh , the YELLOWJACKET.... yes, Robben was wearing a MARIGOLD -- bold yellow -- jacket and matching suit pants with a deep red t-shirt and his two-tone shoes, like jszabo17 said on his earlier post. Wow _________________ Travelling by train of thought

Thanks Roadwarrior for the details!
I also want to acknowledge Johnny A- very impressive playing. I especially liked the way his bass player tapped chords while simultaneously hammering on the beat. If Johnny A comes to a town near you, definitely must see...

Great reviews! Now I wanna go see Robben too. Feb 2 seems like ages ago. Anyone out there planning to attend the shows later this month in Bend and Grants Pass, Oregon?

Thanks, Phil! I have a bunch more pictures, but unfortunately they are too blurry. Non-flash photography is difficult when the subject doesn't stand absolutely still. I was lucky to wind up with a couple good ones.
I can't help think about two of the lighter moments the other night. One was when someone from the audience yelled out, "Mystic Mile!" in between songs, to which Robben replied something like, "That's old! We gotta play the new shit!" That got the audience chuckling. And the other was when Robben was just starting to strum hard in the middle of a song and he completely "whiffed" on the first downstroke and the quick upstroke. He did a facial and shoulder cringe followed by a big smile, and of course, continued on. The smile caused me to smile too...
