Dear Amp Dudes:
I just bought a used Fender "the Twin" combo with red knobs on it at a local music store for a reasonable price. A quick look at the back shows that it has four Sovtek-6L6 tubes and the two-12" speakers has "FMI special design speaker" label on it. I tested my guitar on it (FMI-Strat) on the clean channel and is happy with it. However, when I tested the lead channel, it's kind of muddy and blurry sound and the guitar tone just does not come out. I spent countless hours tweaking with different settings with no success and this is slowly causing me some grief. Since I have no idea what date it was made, it must be the old tubes, are the tubes need to be replaced? Or is there something wrong with this amp. I wonder if it is a good find.

Although you may get a better tone with new tubes, the Twin does not possess a great OD tone. You should stay on the clean channel and use a good OD pedal like the Xotic AC Boost.
