Hi All;
You guys are all light years ahead of me in in terms of guitar playing, the only area that I excel in is years, of which I have many, here on planet earth. I read an old post about qualifications required to play the blues-If I am from the suburbs of Detroit can I get right into it, or is there a waiting period of sadness after I submit my request thereby ensuring that I will be a fully functional bluesman-does a hat with a stingy brim speed up the process? Sorry I couldn't resist. My real question is about EQ pedals, I would like to buy one but I have no Idea which ones are good and which are not and hoped that maybe you guys could steer me in the right direction
Thanks

Burnie, do you have a wah-wah pedal? I'd recommend getting one before an EQ pedal. Just a plain & simple Cry Baby is all you need for hours of fun bluesy sounds.
And, I hear you about people here being light years ahead in playing. I feel the same way, but I still find lots of useful info and talk, and there's always something for everyone. There's even a fashion review section!

What kind of sound are you after? Graphic EQ's are the bane of musical reproduction. Most high end audio systems don't have any tone controls at all, much less 12 or 24 of them. They have a real tendancy to suck the life out of a guitars sound. Robben doesn't use any and keeps the tone controls of his amp pretty near the middles of their ranges.
I do know a couple of folks who use things like the Boss eq live. They have to put exciters and other things into the chain and end up with a very processed sound. Sometimes this fits really well in a band context, especially a noisy cover band with lots going on. But it's not really a blues/jazz thing. You might have more luck over on the Scott Henderson board. Scott tends to run much more signal processing than Robben.
There are a lot of folks here with lots of different set ups, ranging from entry level gear to boutique stuff that costs too much to be reasonable. If you can describe what you are trying to achieve, I'm sure you can get plenty of tips on gear and setups that will head in that direction. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Thanks for the input you guys, I got my information about needing an EQ pedal from amptone.com and I thought that sounded reasonable, but the last thing I want to do is suck tone and I have an old morley wah-the one that looks like a chrome tank-so I will give that a try. Right now all I have for an amp is a 1960's 1484 silvertone head that is modded somewhat, more gain, master volumn, and a real reverb tank instead of the piezo one it had. I am getting a new amp, a Mazerati 38 Senior so I will be able to experiment with a better amp. I know most of you guys have probably got amps that are more on the Dumble side, but it is all good, just different varieties. Aolian, I don't have words to describe the tone I want because it is so subjective, I'll know it when it touches my soul. That is as close as I can come to a description. Some of the players whose tone I like are; Robben Ford_duh_, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, John Scofield, Roy Buchanon, Wes Montgomery, there is not really a best, they are all the best. I love everything that has to do with music, but a lot to learn so I am a good listener-Thanks again
