OK, so the huge roster of magazines on every topic under the sun, including guitar magazines, is just a giant marketing ploy by the advertisers. (Witness, e.g., this month's "Guitar Player," where you'll have to buy four separate editions to have cover photos and one song transcription for each of the four Beatles, 'though the entire rest of the contents of each edition will be identical.) When I saw that Robhen was the writer of the introduction for Guitar Player's "special" issue, "Heroes of the Electric Blues," I just had to buy one. For those of you who have read the magazine, any thoughts about Robben's thoughts about his inspirations?
And kudos to the editors of Guitar Player for picking Robben to do the intro for this issue. If 65 years after aparently faking his own death, Robert Johnson himself had miraculously turned up at their doorstep with a laptop, Guitar Player still couldn't have picked a better writer and musician to do the honors. _________________ - BlueRunner
Took me awhile to get this special issue. Thanks for mentioning it as i might never have seen it coming although i subscribe to GP.
After reading the intro by Robben i think it's safe to say that he loves the electric guitar and BB King.I think the essay was a fine encapsulation of Robben's journey. And he made it clear that most important thing when playing music is the emotional expression of one's heart and soul.
Long live da blues,
J
