Once again, it was hot, hot, hot! A perfect Labor Day weekend in the Bay Area...Robben was smokin', as were Hilary and Dewayne. Poor Hil was being blinded by the light, so someone threw a KGO cap to her. She never missed a beat, and as usual, drummed her heart out for us. Great show.
Sorry, I never can remember the song list, but I can tell you that the encore number was a big honkin' "Politician," and even the people backstage were dancing.
For you fashion conscious lads and lassies, Robben was clad in black T-shirt and black jeans, with nice brown boots. I just drove in from the North Coast, so when I have had a chance to catch my breath, I will post a few photos. (Got a really good one of his shoes, as I was about 5 feet away from him, and a couple of his LP!)
After seeing Robben, we listened to Bob Weir and Ratdog for a few minutes, then strolled around looking at the art. I love that "Dead" sound, but after Robben, well, you know.
Love, elizabeth
Update: Tuesday mornin': I tried to upload the photos, but I am terminally electronically challenged. I sent them to the Captain, so he could post them. _________________ www.elizabethgage.com |

I can't say enough good things about Robben Ford's performance Saturday at the Sausalito Art Festival! He was as cool as a cucumber in that full sun and dressed in black, no less. Hillary and Dwayne were fantastic, as usual. We got there early and got the table in the front, but then a whole slew of Robben fans piled up against the stage. I had no choice but to bring my Pentax up there, too. I hope I got some good close-ups. It was hard to catch him looking up from under that baseball cap. Hopefully I got a good shot after the hat came off. Sure hope he comes back to the Festival year after year. It may just have been the best I've seen him play yet! |

Good pix, Elizabeth! I was probably standing right next to you when I took them, cuz mine were at that angle, too. Can't wait to get mine back, but they're still in the camera (my old Pentax). |

I wonder where the Baker is, too; I think the Tele was the only other guitar her played, but godddddddd, HE WAS SOOOOO GOOD!
Bunnylover, I think we exchanged smiles when you were up there snapping photos. I never take more than a few, as I don't like to listen from behind the lens. I do appreciate digital photography for the instant gratification it yields, though!

I'm wondering that too, as the value of mine starts to drop. Why don't you ask Daved about this?

|
|
Is that a 59 historic reissue? I just bought a 57 Gold top historic reissue, and man it's sweet. The odd thing about mine is that Gibson forgot to Silk Screen "Les Paul" on the head stock. Which acutally makes it cooler.
I contacted Gibson's Custom shop about it, and they have offered to put it on, including taking care of all shipping. I don't want to part with it, at least not right now; I might in the future. I was able to negotiate $150 off of the price when I bought it because of that.
It's good to see RF playing that model, supposedly the 57 GT is almost identical to the '59 reissuel except for the flamed top......
Thanks for the pix!

I have several times..... Daved?? |
Sorry .
The Baker is down at Musicworks in L.A. being refretted by Jim Foot who does most of Robben's fretwork. It's been there for awhile as we've been so busy that neither Robben nor I have had a chance to drop by and pick it up.
It'll be back to work with us soon. _________________ B C-ing U!

Which begs the obvious question: what size frets? I believe he had 6105's on there before, is he sticking with those, or going back to 6100's?

Yikes Daved,
As you know, I am not unaccustomed to driving long distances, so if you need someone to pick it up and bring it to Robben, you can count on me! (Of course it would have to be on a weekend or during vacation, but I would chauffeur it with great care!)
