I put in the Darkbursts, and they're really nice. The neck pickup is not muddy. It's very useable.
The brige is not too bright. They're really fat with a nice bite.
I compared them to the SD '59 and JB in my other guitar, and the SD's are a little brighter - mainly the JB in the bridge. But the SD's are not as fat and full.
I'll have to play it more later. I have to send it to a guitar tech to do some work on the action. So I won't be able to fully test it out for another week or so.
But so far I like them.

Thanks for the brief report. I'll be looking forward to hearing more after you get a chance to try them out for a while. I'll be going this weekend to compare the Antiquities to a friend's guitar with Burstbuckers. I'll also be going to see Robben Saturday night, so it will be interesting to see if he switched to Burstbuckers or stuck with the '57 Classics.

Bill,
You will be hearing the BB #1 in the bridge position & the BB#2 in the neck position.
You will also be hearing Eminence Tonkers in the Dumble cab.
Robben is still testing them out, but he has been very favorable towards them so far.
Back home we also have a set of 'Redcoat' speakers not yet being marketed, which Eminence sent us, installed in his other Dumble cab that Robben likes. Their tone is different, but Robben & Alexander both liked them and see them as potentially useful. We will delve into them more when we get back.

Thanks Daved. I'll be especially interested to hear those pickups, and the speakers too. I didn't care much for the '57 Classics in my Les Paul, so I guess I'm not surprised that Robben is giving the BurstBuckers a try. If he likes the sound but not the microphonics, he might want to consider trying the WCR pickups.

See you Saturday!

Bill

I've been talking with Jim about getting a pair of Darkbursts for my R9, but I was hoping to hear from you a bit more before I go ahead and order. Have you been able to spend more time with them? Should we take this discussion off line?

Thanks.

I'll get my guitars back tomorrow (Friday). If you would like, you can email me at jazzyblues54@yahoo.com

There is another guitar forum where Jim Wagner, the make of WCR pickups, also goes. He left a clip there.
Go to the bottom of the page. His member name is WCR, and he has a clip of the Darkbursts in action.
But I'll record something too with the Darkbursts so you can have another example.

This site will take you directly to a sound clip -
